Bissell Crosswave

Bought a Bissell Crosswave on weekend . So far surprisingly useful/effective. It came with a small sample bottle of cleaning solution. I went on line to Amazon and ended up buying Bissell carpet shapoo by mistake ( less than a liter ` $25 ) but then relised that the precribed product for Crosswaves was $75 for approximately the same volume. When I compared the ingredients the shampoo contained many of the same ingredients but in a much higher concentration ( and some soap like surfactants as well ). Can I dilute the Bissell shampoo that I have already purchaed or do I have to bend over and spend $ 75 on being sc****d for something that seems to be no more expensive to manufacture?

Don't know much about the Crosswave itself, but usually the biggest concern for these types of machines is foaming of the cleaning agent.  I'd give the cheaper cleaner a try in diluted concentration and see how it goes.  

 

I have a Hoover Spin-Scrub carpet machine and needed more cleaning solution a year or so ago.  When shopping around I was astounded at the cost of the Hoover (and other) brands' solutions - clearly a huge profit stream for Hoover, Bissell, etc.   I went to my local cleaning/chemical supply company and bought a gallon of non-foaming carpet cleaning solution for less than $20, instructions state to use 1/3 less in machine solution than the branded products.  I've used it a couple of times now, seems to do an excellent job with no foaming.

I didn't know Bissel

was marketed down under. I had one of their steamer mops with attatchements. It was nice, and worked good, for 3 years. I even used distilled water in it. No more Bissel products for me.
I have a Hoover second generation floor mate. It's great! I use Mr. Clean all purpose kitchen cleaner in it. Has two spin brushes. One for smooth, one for tiled floors.

I have also used Mr Clean in mine. It needed just a tiny amount to do a good job, but I was still concerned about the foaming so I went and bought the Crosswave solution at Target (I agree the amazon price was insane)

I found the cleanup process on the Crosswave to be a bit much, so it’s going up to our cabin in the mountains. No one is there in the winter so the batteries in cordless devices don’t survive the cold, but the Crosswave is corded so it will be fine.

For home use I got the Tineco Floor One S3. It was 25% off a few weeks ago. It has a self-cleaning cycle that seems to work as advertised, and a large debris strainer in the dirty water tank that really helps with cleanup. IMO it’s a lot less involved to start and finish cleaning than the Crosswave. Cleaning performance is about the same. I still use the Crosswave solution in it.

I've had a corded Crosswave for around 2 or so years or so and like it. One time I had run out of solution and used a minute amount of carpet shampoo,, big mistake, foaming everywhere so my advice is don't. I would not buy a cordless model because you're not going to get more than 2-3 years out of it before the batteries are pooched as happens with most cordless tools. I'm going thru that right now with a little Black and Decker stick vac which I really liked. Wasted money. I pay about $25 for the big jug of Crosswave solution on Amazon. It lasts quite a while.

I have a Hoover Spin Scrub

So I haven't checked Bissell's solution prices. But for the Hoover, sometimes they have the solution as an add on. I got a gallon of Hoover Pet, carpet cleaning solution regularly $19.99 for $5 as an add on to another purchase.

If you order on a regular basis from Amazon, look for these add on items and when you have a qualifying purchase add it on. I keep some of the add ons in my wish list, so I can find them quickly when needed.
