Blackstone Gyroscope

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Fred ... WOW ... what a great toy!  Looks like a lot of fun to play with!  LOVE the rocket ship diagram; very "space age", indeed.

That is a great collectible and with the original box, no less!

We had these as kids, from the dime store.

Starting in the 50s, when Philco washers still had the metal agitator, they advertised "Ball Point Balance" where the whole mechanism pivoted on a little round ball.

Hi Fred

Amazed at how much the upper portions of the gyroscope looks like the disc and shaft of the Blackstone transmission. Like you, I saw the thread for the commercial washer too late, but after working that tranny for hours to get it unstuck, I'll remember that "flying saucer" complete with ports (bolts) forever.

Blackstone Gyroscope

I also did get one of these. The only place that carried Blackstone in New York was a place called Carmel Lumber. It was in the late 60s and they had the solid tub SS washer. I never saw one run. I am surprised more places didn't cary Blackstone in New York. I only knew 1 person that had the dryer. I never understand why the door was so long!

Old time gyroscope-had one of those when I was a kid.Great toy-and NO BATTERIES!!!
Later I remember a Kirby distributor that used a Kirby powerplant like a gyroscope-he made it do balancing tricks just like the toy gyroscope. The one I had wasn't a Blackstone-but a gyro just the same.
and at one of the old Air Force base(Holloman) they had a giant motorized gyroscope you could play around with during the air shows. Was an older aircraft gyro-sort of cut open so you could see how it worked. Was fun to play with like the toy one.Visitors enjoyed using it.and then the air powered rocket sled!A minature sled that worked from compressed air-the air jet launched the sled down a minature track. And of course the REAL ones were fun to watch!!
