Blackstone Model 132AP

I am a new member who has joined the forum in search of information on an old wringer washing machine. I recently discovered the washer behind a lot of junk that I have been cleaning out of an old house that belonged to my grandparents. The washer is a wringer style, Blackstone Model 132AP washer, Serial # 9926. It has not been used in many years but does not look too bad (I have not looked inside the tub yet). I don't collect old washing machines (or haven't till now) but would like to learn something about this one my grandmother used. First, how old is it? Was this considered a good machine? Approximately, how much would one have cost when it was new? When did Blackstone cease manufacturing washers? Depending on condition, what is a reasonable range of value for such a machine?

I was totally unfamiliar with Blackstone washing machines before finding this one. I have since discovered that they were one of the earliest brands.

During a web search I saw that one of your members, Blackstone, posted that he was a former Blackstone dealer. I hope to hear from him and any other well informed members who might have interesting information to share.

Blackstone started laundry manufacturing in 1874, as they advertised. They stopped in about 1975. My family had a TV/appliance store here in Springfield, Mass., and we sold and serviced many Blackstones. You will find quite a few members here who have Blackstones, some of which were provided by me, as I cleaned out the store.

I am not personally familiar with this model; mostly, I know about the Blackstone automatics, starting with the 250s and 350s. Not sure of the date this model was made, but I'll check to see if I have any literature on it.

I looked on eBay for old adds, etc. I have found a few old magazines at the house I might look through. Was wondering if there might be some old descriptive literature or operating instructions around.

Hi, your blackstone was made in 1948 or 49 and you have the smaller one. The 130ap was the larger one. The 130ap holds a 9 pound load and yours is the 8 pound load.

oldwasherguy, thanks to you and all the others who have replied for the information and insight you have provided thus far. I was just looking on line at a Blackstone magazine ad from 1948 which included a drawing of a Blackstone wringer style washer in the ad. The washer shown was not identified by model number but, from what I have seen so far, I felt the model pictured was very likely the one I have. Of course, I did not know if perhaps Blackstone may have manufactured washers that looked essentially the same for a period of several years.

These washers look the same from 1948 through about 1958, but there are small details where you can tell if they are made in the late 40s or the 50s. One detail is the blackstone decals. The ones from the 40s has red decals with white lettering, and the ones from the 50s are white decals with red lettering.also, the 1950s machines have a different wringer tension knob than the ones from the 40s. So yours is definitely 1948 or 49.As far as value, they are only worth what somebody is willing to give you for it.I hope this helps. Don
