It's an Amana.

It's local to me.

It's reasonably priced.

It's in nice shape and it's clean.

It's not quite the style I was looking for, quite a bit newer in fact, but I could live with it.

EXCEPT THAT IT'S BLOODY ALMOND!

I hate Almond.

I mean I really hate Almond.

Because most stuff in the last thirty-five years that wasn't black or stainless was Almond, leaving that much less White to be found.

And Almond looks like White that is badly in need of cleaning, except that when you clean Almond, it still looks dirty.

Have I mentioned that I don't like Almond?

Just had to get the frustration out, because this fridge is otherwise doable, as in I could have it in my house by tomorrow afternoon doable.

Bloody Almond.

Believe me I hate it as well. I've rid this house of the previous owners almond stove and almond dishwasher and fridge.. all that's left is the range hood which is really a piece of cake.. there's plenty of white ones at the restore but I'm sort of waiting for a really really really good white one to show up.. not just the base Nutone builder models.

To each his own.  I hate white, like almond. My fridge and DW are almond and would not have it any other way.  In my kitchen white would be too stark, black too jarring, and stainless would be passable at best.  not too many options anymore unless it's vintage, but those colors would not look right either.

tonight...

I was looking for that Amana , and remember clearly....'NO almond!"

You know, it's going to show up one day - just hope it won't be your other loathed colors - green or harvest gold. :-)

...will keep looking around...but closing shop tonight... :-)

Hard to believe all those vintage colors from all those vintage eras all evolved into "THAT" one!!!!!!

Most people who have had 'Al--nd', as the last resort (because of the Black/White debacle being the only alternative) had to choose either White or Stainless, in the end!

Count my 1999 19" Whirlpool SideXSide at my dad's as the last soul survivor...! (The rest of the apps' are from the mid-2000's and in WHITE!)

Oh, the hand-me-down, unused 1988 Kenmore portable BOL dishwasher from my grandmother, also in ALMOND, used to store random Tupperware & Rubbermaid--THAT DOESN'T COUNT!!!!

WOW ...

That looks like the exact model (and color!) Mom and Dad still have in their kitchen. It was an emergency purchase on December 23, 1987.

Kenny:

Yep, it could be painted. But that is a project that I just don't have time or resources for, unfortunately. To do it myself means a rattle-can job, which is not as durable as a pro job, plus it is really not easy to get an even job over the surface of the large panels on a refrigerator. To get a pro job done means some real money, plus some transport issues getting the box to the shop and back to my house. It would also mean putting a lot of money and/or effort into an '80s box I would be "settling for," not one that really runs my motor like the earlier, 1970s Amanas do. But I thank you for the thought.

Oh, well. The search continues....[this post was last edited: 4/23/2014-15:08]

Or think of it as white that gained some experience over the years.

Beautiful Almond

I love almond.Reminds me of the 80s before my life and the world turned to sh**.Blackface kenmore washers look spectacular in almond. My frigidgrator and stove in my new house (The Hotel Costa Plente)were special ordered in biscuit which is similar to almond. The amanas of that era that are left are likely by this time to be faded or discored anyway and will need painting, at least most of the older white refers I see everyday at Cedar Appliance usually do.I would pounce on that one.

Most of the appliance refinishing companies here will come and pickup your appliance and deliver if back to you when the repaint is done. You shouldn't have to worry about transporting something as large as a refrigerator.

Sandy

Can't tell from the pic, but is it a textured finish, or smooth?
If it's textured, a high density foam roller with some oil based enamel, could do the trick.
Rust-Oleum in the white can (oil based) is enough for a fridge.
