Bosch dishwasher

The family owned appliance store near me (have been doing business with them over 25 years) has always "pushed" Maytag. Not anymore, and I certainly understand why. Salesman says the Bosch dishwasher is the best on the market now. Any experience among us here? Any commments????

If their racking was more like a KenPool I'd have snatched one up in a minute. Methinks the Bosch racks leave a great deal of one space between items. Of course, this may be to facilitate their engineering /washing philosophy and practice.

I saw the new Bosch dishwasher models yesterday at Lowes...they look very cheapened. That plastic base for the tank and then the stainless steel walls attach at the bottom..and to me thats an area begging for a water leak. Plus the racks jut out into the door area. Even the door feels cheap...maybe its me but thats the way I see it. The detergent dispenser is almost to the top of the door. I am wondering though if they will bring the Bosch models from europe here with the upper silverware basket...much like my Miele.
The price they were asking was $495 USD.

I have a bosch that I got 3 years ago. Model is SHX46A. I just love it. It handels anything I throw at it, and everything is always very shiny and clean when It comes out. Yes, it does take 2 hrs to wash a load, but, so far this has not been a problem. It's extreamly quiet, infact when family comes they can't believe it's on.

I took a look at the new bosch at lowes as well. I do kinda like the upper rack better than what's in mine as far as the spacing between the rows of tines. I don't like how the top rack juts out into the door tho.

Model SHX33A here, installed October 2001 and never a problem of any kind. Dishes come out sparkling. This is an Integra Design model with the controls in the door edge. The front is plain (white) metal with a parabolic handle and no logo visible except on the edge of the door.

Wash time is 90-120 minutes but worth the wait. If you are entertaining with lots of lightly soiled plates, cups, and glasses (if you have a bunch of folks for coffee or a light brunch), you can use the Quick Wash option which does a load in about 30 minutes. If you scrape and prerinse, this quick option works fairly well.

i dont know whatim doing wrong..

i am on my second bosch. the first one was 3 years ago.. i get this dirty dish odor after the wash is completed.. changed it for the double drawer dishwasher, which was deemed defective from the store, so instead of getting a replacement, i chose a bosch again.. same problem. the odor of dirty dishes after the cycle is completed..
spoke to bosch rep regarding this.. he called his home office- they had no answer for me.. i will tell you this d/w is ultra quiet. i just dont understand what is wrong.. i have been told though, im not the first to complain about this issue.i have no idea what to do... anyone has any suggestions? i never had this problem with my whirlpool or kenmore d/w in the past.. if i had my choice i wouldnt buy another bosch, for this reason..

One other minor point: the use of a rinse agent (Jet Dry or equivalent) is imperative. Bosch dishwashers have a water heater, but there is no heated drying option. Instead, the high heat of the final rinse forces water to vaporize off the dishes, and the vapor condenses on the stainless steel tub surfaces. At the end of a Bosch cycle, plates and dishes and glasses are dry, but the sides of the tub are moist. This process is facilitated by use of rinse agent. If rinse agent is not used, there may be water left on the dishes that doesn't evaporate to the sides of the tub, and a Bosch may not operate properly under these circumstances.

Jim---That same drying process applies to my LG. Except for plastics, which remain very wet, I don't really miss a heated dry. The manual states repeatedly that the use of a liquid rinse agent is not optional.

Bosch filter

Do all Bosch dishwashers have the filter on the bottom of the tub? Not used to seeing that and wondering how difficult it is to clean........

The filter at the bottom is user-cleanable and it's quite easy to do. I clean mine out about every three months, just run it under a strong spray in the sink.

I have noticed an off-odor with my SHU43C, but that seems to be more related to using Kirkland DW detergent powder than anything else. Since I switched to Cascade powder, haven't had the issue.

The only trick with the manual clean filter is putting it back in properly and locking it in place with a 1/4 turn. This is very important and failure to secure it properly can lead to debris getting into the wash arms and poor cleaning results. After a little practice, however, it's not an issue.

I would say that the door on the Bosch is relatively light weight. The stainless interior is also lightweight gauge. But it all works so well I don't worry about it.

MOL Bosch

I've had a MOL Bosch, as does one of my cousins. She likes hers, I wasn't impressed with the same model, don't recall the model number, but it may have been the SHX46. It's a tad on the small side, don't know if the new models are the same size as American DWs, and I found the racks to be a bit aggravating, not very flexible. It cleaned ok, but as others have said, runs forever to do a load, but that is pretty much standard now days.

IMO a pretty basic machine, I certainly would not have paid regular retail for it $599, the one I got was scratch and dent for $225, that that was about what I thought it was worth. Much prefer my GE, sad to see them go....

The filter at the bottom of the Bosch pops in or out with a simple quarter turn, but it takes a bit of practice to get it seated correctly. I inspect it once a month, but rarely find any debris lodged in it. A quick rinse under the water tap is all that it needs.

The only odor I notice is that the interior smells a bit like Jet Dry, which isn't disagreeable.

Newer Bosch models have an indicator light to warn you when levels of rinse agent are low. My machine has a visual indicator in the dispenser. I top it off every 4-5 washes and never let it run low.
