Bosch Dryer now offer reverse tumble...!?

Greetings Laundry fans!

Somewhere on my Facebook or Instagram a post popped up with a snippet of a Bosch press release mentioning reverse tumbling now available on the Bosch dryers with Bedding/bedlinen cycle - I cannot now find said post or press release.

Anyone seen this? the Bosch washers with 4D Jet and reversing dryer now make for a compelling reason (well for me anyway) to consider a purchase

Maybe it's just me, but have found very little virtue in reverse tumbling dryers.

My AEG Lavamat does this, but interestingly if one chooses "Quick" option it does not reverse tumble during drying cycle. When sensors say things have reached desired dry level, then as part of cool down reverse tumbling begins.

Either way with or without reverse tumbling find things dried in most domestic dryers end up tangling or clumping together. With the AEG condenser dryer one can tell as begin to hear "thump, thump, thump".. which means things have wadded up into a ball. Sadly only way to deal with this is to open door and remove (very) hot and steamy bed linens, untangle, then bung lot back into dryer. This is a huge waste of energy and time.

Find thing rarely ball up in large laundromat sized dryers.

My 2002 Bosch Axxis+ Dryer

 

<span style="font-family: helvetica;">I bought a Bosch Dryer in 2002.  I think it was an Axxis+.  It did reverse tumble on every cycle.  I know this because it was noisy.  It was in a utility room off the kitchen and I would close the door because it was so annoying.  I don't recall if everything balled up or not.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: helvetica;">After that I bought a Samsung washer and dryer.  One of those huge ones that you could practically crawl into.  I don't remember if that one  reversed or not but I don't recall a huge issue with items getting all tangled up.  It did occasionally but I don't remember a huge issue.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: helvetica;">We downsized to a smaller set because we didn't need those huge machines and the space I had to stack them wouldn't accommodate those huge machines.  We now have a Miele dryer with a separate Bed Linens cycle.  If I use the Normal cycle the sheets ball up and I hear the thud Laundress mentioned above.  When I use the Bed Linens cycle it does not ball them up.  I have never stood in front of the dryer for the entire cycle to observe what it's doing but I do know the dryer does reverse tumble at least when it starts out on every cycle.  I assume it does it throughout the entire cycle.</span>

Bedding balling up in dryer

I have stopped putting bedding into the dryer all together, After the washer has done its 1600 spin I just remove them and fold it up and leave it damp to go through the roller iron/mangle it saves having to damp it down again and its easier to iron due to not being knotted up. I do hang on the line weather permitting but now its getting damper and not so warm I will save my energy !!

Bed and table linen go from washer to one of our various mangles (cold or heated). IIRC few off times used that AEG Lavatherm was for sateen sheets that wanted to dry until damp, then hang dry. Once or twice was enough of that nonsense, went back to ironing/mangling.

My last 3 sets of washers and dryers have been modern AEG's (upgraded each time to get newer modles/features - they were still working fine) simply because of the recirculation jets and reverse tumbling and not Miele prices

Reverse tumbling=less tangling, roping

Maybe the larger drum size of my Fisher Paykel top load dryer, which reverse tumbles on all cycles throughout the cycle, helps give better results but basically it almost never tangles anything, something small caught in a fitted sheet corner only occasionally.
