BEKO FRIDGE FREEZER WARNING UK!

On the radio 2 news a report says that 25 have gone up in flames and one case killing someone! The national services police etc have told people who own them to report to Beko.

I heared about beko, i knew that they had recalled a percentage of gas cookers but fridge freezers?! but thankfuly they have given recall info and a free modification to the faulty defrost time so thats good!

Anyone know if mines included?
It says my model number (E Number) isn't correct.

You should check your model number, as they are long and it's easy to make a mistake. The batch number does fall into the affected range

"The affected dishwashers are in the batch number range from FD 7901 to FD 8504."

I found it strange that the fault has been lying undetected for over six years!

Well the data that I am entering to the form is Exactly as it appears on the Rating plate, however I have noticed this is a Bosch site, so I have looked for a link from the Neff site, and can't find one, so I am wondering if Neff machines are affected.
But Maybe we'll phone them in a few days/weeks times.
Is It free this repair? Have to pay for call out? (hope not, its there fault).

So what causes a fire hazzard then? Is it a problem with the pannel, which means it will keep heating the water until after so long the heater catches fire, or not?

Thanks for letting me know. I hope it isn't affected! It hasn't needed a repair since we got it in 2003 and always gives excellent results.

The link below is for Neff dishwashers. The safety notice is rather hidden on the Bosch, Siemens and Neff sites, a link entitled "repair action" which doesn't look easy to find. Previous safety notices by Candy, Zanussi have had WARNING SAFETY NOTICE in large capitals.

According to the FAQS which I'm looking at now, it says overheating in the control panel, the repair action is free, but doesn't say as to whether you should use it or not. Unattended it could cause a fire in operation they say (but if I had an affected appliance I wouldn't use it attended or unattended, it could still be dangerous even if I'm stting in front of it watching it).

The model numbers aren't stated, but it's by batch number, and the models affected were made between 1999-2005, so the models would be at least six years old.

First Beko fridge freezers now Bosch dishwashers, a lot is going on in the appliance world.

Its probably because the risk is fire related, but i think it's pretty harsh that Beko & Bosch are issuing or being made to issue notices for appliances dating back as long as 11 years in Beko's case, yet Hoover/Candy & Indeshit get away with doing next to nothing about their exploding drums on machines that are only a couple of years old.

Although i was pretty shocked when i heard about Beko on the radio earlier, i have more respect for them for actually acting than i do for Hoover/Candy & Indesit who are blatantly not interested in their customers so long as they can make a nice profit.

Oh Good, mines not included!
It fits all the requirements (made between 1999-2005, Situated between FD 7901-FD 8504) However when mam spoke on the phone to them, they said it isn't included, as the control panel for that model was made in a different factory!

After checking the link (Thanks Ultimafan), it definatly says that it isn't included!

Neither mine nor my brother's were affected, but a neighbour's was.

It said something in the repair link about a component overheating if the UK's voltage peaked.
