Bose Acoustic

Wave II. Have for years admired / desired this. For a non-audiophile like me, the sound is wonderfully seductive. However, I was never able to quite make the decision to just get one. The relentless newspaper advertising is appealing, but the price always made me want to think about it some more. LOL!

Well an terrific opportunity presented itself today & voila I have like new, hardly used 1992 vintage AWII. A bit low tech by today's standards, but I love it!

Bose does make very high quality products, I feel. I have a pair of Bose Interaudio SA-100 speakers that are close to 30 years old and still have excellent sound quality and can shake the floor at one quarter volumn. Several people I know have the Wave's and I have no idea haow they can get that high quality of sound in such a small package.

I've never actually heard one and those infomercials are sure tempting but like a lot of people.. the price,,, eek.

The demonstration

i heard years ago that when that unit was first demonstrated, it was turn on and playing behind curtains. You could hear it but not see it. The audience was pleased with the room-filling sound.
Much to the astonishment of the audience, the curtains were opened and there was that little BOSE unit.

Bose

While the Bose acoustic system might be impressive for its size, I found the Bose audio system in my Infiniti to be quite a let down for the calibre vehicle it was in. Unfortunately, I have been soured against Bose equipment because of it. That being said, I know several people that have the acoustic system in their condominiums and the sound is impressive.

In this class, Bose does more sound with less space than anyone. Waveguide schmaveguide, it's just a folded horn.

Bose as an "engineering company" makes workable products but often with compromises the buyer wouldn't choose if s/he knew. And they're substantially overpriced at retail.

Equally good sound

Not to go off subject but I read great reviews on Logitech's Squeezebox Boom (internet clock radio) so I bought one.

This is not a cheap radio (on Amazon for around $450).

The sound is so awesome from such a small box (15 x 7 x 7 inches ; 6.1 pounds).
I don't like systems that sound flat and tinny and this thing blows other radios away.

Malcolm I have Bose in my Maxima and find the sound pretty darn good...what Infiniti do you have and why are you not impressed with the sound quality of the Bose in it?

it's something a member has wanted for a long time, and the forces of the second hand market finally allowed him to get it.

Congratulations, Leslie! I don't have the Wave, but I have two Bose SoundDocks; one in the office at work and one in the kitchen. The sound is great for its size. I also have a Bose sound system (two pods and a subwoofer) on the iMac in my home office and it rocks.

Hope your Wave II gives you years of quality listening!

I have a wave radio from the mid 90's and love it. i have it perched on top of the cabinets in the kitchen and sounds great. Just bought a new one for the other house since i didn't want to clutter up the living room with speakers and such. This one sits on top of the tv and is directly connected to the cable box so i can listen to commercial free music channels. The sound is incredible. I have to keep looking to see all this music is coming from this small box. the new ones have dual wave speakers not like the older one which only had it in the left side. they have also added a bass port on the rear of the unit to allow the bass to drift upward into the room. great sound you won't be disappointed. plus when listening to stations that have the option it will display the song title and artist on the front under the clock.

I have the first model of the Bose Acoustic Wave system-was demenstrated to me at a studio in the radio station where I worked.The salesman was promoting the unit as a portable "monitor"I bought the unit and have it to this day-instead of the CD player-it has a casssette player in it.Still nice sound.I can play a CD player or other device into the Aux inputs.It came with a "power case"-on the bottom of the case is a holder for something like a dozen or so "D" batteries-would play for several hours from them-but EXPENSIVE-so run it from the powerline.A rechargeable power pack would be better.Mine has to be like 30yrs old!!-still works!

Always liked the small Bose radios

There were two of the Wave docking stations (like Eugene's) at an estate sale last week, both priced at $170 and both had 1/2 price bids. I've never heard one in a home setting, only in the wide open store displays. It's good to know some have auxiliary inputs, do most all of the stand-alone Bose radios? I wonder if it's a good choice since the iPod-Pad-Phone connectors keep changing - buy the cord and that's it, but no charging.
