Bought the Amana WTW4516 at Lowe's on clearance $200

So I had to leave a washer at my old house because the Speed Queen and Whirlpool I gave to a member of the club.

My new house has an Amana like the one I just bought and so far it has been great. Washed many loads in it so far and I love the fact you CAN get hot water other than the normal cycle.

The load sensing seems to work fine.Cycle times are fairly quick, but the one thing struck me about a small load I was washing.

It was like the wash action can be savage on this washer. The basket bouncing all over on one of the wash loads. The torque of that motor really thrashes the load. I was quite impressed actually.

Even though they are the VMW design I can't wait to use the one I have in my new home. Hey....for $200 if you get one that isn't faulty you will have a decent machine.

Haven't used one of these designs since my Maytag Bravos X back in 2013.

Anyway it is a fun machine and now I know what I will be getting in the new home.

I have the Roper sister ship, RTW4516 which will be a year old next month.  I LOVE this washer!  Its’ FAST, cleans excellently and ALWAYS does what it’s supposed to do.  The least expensive washer you can lay your hands on brand new and a great bargain.  I can afford to get any machine I’d like, but this fills the bill and doesn’t break the bank.

 

Glad to hear you like your Amana too.  They have to be seen to be believed.  Great flexibility, but I’ve found after using all the cycles that I most always use the Normal/Regular, Auto sense with hot water.  I keep it set to this and for most loads I just need to add the detergent and the laundry, close the lid, press start and 35 mins later I have beautifully washed, rinsed and spun clothes.

 

 It also handles large and bulky loads with no drama.  I washed two king sized pillows a couple of weeks ago on the Bulky Cycle and they came out like new, no unbalancing either.

When I made the video earlier in the day yesterday I thought I would be going with the place that didn't have a washer and dryer hookup.

As it turned out by God's grace I was steered away from that home and brought back to the original place i looked at that had the Amana washer & dryer.

Long story short. The manager at the community I originally wanted to be in contacted me and agreed to reduce the price of the house and take a year's rent in advance! Praise God !

Now I can finally go to the place I originally had my heart set on.

I will say these machines aren't bad for what they are. If I couldn't get my hands on a Speed Queen, I would definitely go with one of these, as I think they are the best agitator model on the market. I've used a friends Maytag version a couple of times, and it did a super job washing.

I would have went for the Maytag commercial version of these if my new place didn't already have the Amana pair. At least now I know what to expect. One of the other homes I looked at had a little closet in the kitchen for a unitized set.....that alone put me off. I don't want to be limited to what I can own for a small laundry closet. It would require a major remodel which at this time I am not willing nor financially able to do.

this is

practically identical wash action as the 80s/90s/2000s dual action agitator washers (or shredmore, I think they called them) on here. Ever so slightly different, but the rollover is definitely similar.

It's interesting that for a few years, you could not buy a washer like this anymore.....then they started making them again, although much more cheaply made.

Incidentally, I don't keep up with Speed queens. Did they go back to their older TL model that everyone loved? I remember a few years ago, they came out with a model that would barely roll anything over...it was horrible from the vids I saw. Did they go back to their better model or are they still selling that one?

Speed Queen still makes the TC5 I believe.

It's like Whirlpool went back to the original belt drive design with the longer stroke and hanging suspension, but a much cheapened version.It has performed admirably in the year since I moved in.
