Boy George - Oh My!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Bless him, I think he has many demons, which is evident in his self sabotaging behaviour.

I've heard that aside from the drugs he is a nice guy. I have seen this with some friends who have changed because of drink and drugs.

I understand the prison service have given him special treatment which I don't think is a good idea, I think it will alienate him further to the prisoners.

I hope he survives this and comes out a better person and is able to combat his demons. Whatever he did, he is certainly paying for it now. I can imagine being gay in prison is not an easy thing.

In All Fairness

Boy George was a young lad, in his early twenties, IIRC, during the 1980's when he and "Culture Club" hit the scene. He is now a middle aged man who probably has aged a bit more than he should from too much booze and pills.

Be that as it may, looking as some other big names from the same time period, some haven't aged too well either. Gary Glitter comes to mind (besides being a child molester).

George Michael looks to have had upteen face lifts, or some such work done, and so forth.

Gary Glitter looked porky and old back in '72! And, quite frankly, he was very creepy then, as well.

I've never been a Culture Club fan---except for a few of those wonderful, classic singles: Karma Chameleon; Church Of The Poison Mind; I'll Tumble For Ya---but I always enjoyed his interviews immensely. He was great value for the money, in that respect. Very quick, always clever.

The Boy is responsible for two of my all-time favorite quotes (which I've been shamelessly appropriating for years, now)

1. When asked about reincarnation, he said "I plan to come back as a pair of Matt Dillon's underwear!"

2. When his brother turned him in for heroin possession at the height of his addiction to same in the mid-1980's, George said "I wanted to marry him off to an Albanian lesbian midget!"

It's sad his addictions have led him to his present state.

Poor guy... That pic is horrible; I don't think makeup would help... I hope his next career move is not a spokesperson for Jenny Craig...

Clean Living Pops, Just Clean Living

Actually know many a person who were really into the "club" scene durng the 1980's who look not too far away from BG.

Hard living will run down one's looks quite easily. Many a beautiful woman has been turned into a clapped out old tart from hitting the booze and pills.

Cue that "Valley of the Dolls" Music

"Norma Desmond (itis)", once you have been a "Headliner" i imagine its really hard to be an average joe.

Many a beautiful woman has been turned into a clapped out ol

The quickest way to accomplish that would seem to be with speed (amphetamine). Seems like it takes only a year or two for a nice young lady to become, well, a toothless hag.

Liquor seems to take longer, but just as bad if not worse, if the liver goes.

Pot seems to be the most benign, albeit leading to weight gain and gynecomastia in men. And then there's the cancer from smoking it.

Clean living, indeed. But why does it have to be so boring???

I used to joke that above all, one should avoid excessive moderation.

Problem is, I'm generally excessively moderate. One beer in the evening is usually enough for me. And sometimes it doesn't get finished anyway. Wine is a little easier, but still it's just a glass or two. Gave up the fun stuff years ago, cause it wasn't so much fun any more. I find I just don't like relinquishing what control I still have, to a substance. Coffee seems to be my biggest vice these days. That and the internet ;-)...

The last time I had heard of BG was when he did the Crying Game these with the Pet Shop Boys. He was running around in those bright colored hats and had a dot on his forehead proclaiming he was through with drugs...

I guess that didn't last.

I wouldn't have guessed he would have looked so bad these days.

Big Hair

Was in during the 1980's as well. Remember the film "Working Girl", amoung others set in Manhattan during the time period.

The author of the book "Valley of The Dolls" made some comment about never seeing so much big hair and hair pieces as the film and it's promotions.

Big hair with hair pieces was big during the 1960's and 1970's, especially for girls/women who didn't have long and or naturally thick tresses.

My favourite big hair movie has to be "Steel Magnolias" where Shelby says her mother's hairstyle looks like a football helmet. *LOL*
