Those of you out there must alredy know about the LG TROMM SteamWasher. Well now, LG is introducing a match to the washer known obviously as the LG SteamDryer. It uses LG's brand-new TrueSteam technology where a water line is hooked up to the Washer's hot water line to produce steam simillar to the Whirlpool Duet Steam/Kenmore Elite HE5t and HE3t Steam dryers. This, according to the site, produces true steam? Is there any other kind of steam because that is kind of obvious. The dryer has the same SteamFresh cycle as the washer to help remove wrinkles and odors and virtually eliminate the need to iron. The EasyIron option makes ironing easier but kind of sounds like an option for no-iron fabrics. Finally, the ReduceStatic option eliminates static cling. A problem seemingly only happening on electric dryers. The dryer according to the specifications has an AntiBacterial option as well. And foe those of you who a going to say "But steam corrodes plastic." even though it may, the dryer's drum is stainless steel. It is known as the NeveRust drum.

But, Will it Blend? That is the question. And apparently it does. The LG SteamWasher & SteamDryer with Allergiene is a 120-volt ventless washer/dryer combo. The Allergiene cycle is a cycle that reduces allergens including dust mites and animal dander. The RollerJets and Forced Water Circulation encourage the removal of soils and are gentler on laundry. The machine has the same NeveRust drum as the SteamDryer.

Oops! Correction! The LG SteamDryer does not connect to the washer's water line. you have to manually fill a steam reservoir. I think the connection to the washer by the dryer is patented by Whirlpool and I don't think LG can use that feature without being sued for patent infringement.

From my experiences with LG service I would stay far away from LG. They do make what seems to be durable appliances but after the bad service issues - never again. I still haven't replaced the unit. It's been gone for 8 months. I hope nobody else goes through what I went through. The worst customer service in the world.

I had a long long post about my experiences with service. I had a washer dryer combo I bought from a local store with a 5 year useless contract. I had consistant leaks from the door and to make the story really short the boot was replaced and in the end a slow leak developed from under neath the machine.
Whenever I contacted service most service centers didn't want to be bothered with LG because they didn't let them stock parts and are poor in paying. The parts I did get took weeks at a time to arrive and the people that did do the service really didn't know what they were doing. So I sold the unit to a person who fixes appliances and keeps the unit in the basement so doesnt have to worry about leaks. Reliable?

Er no in a short answer. My Mums LG 1200RPM Effort saw its 2nd Birthday on Dec 6th this year. Not without string of problems which have not been rectified but annoy the hell out of me - im the only one to notice them and im not letting on, it can blow up tomorrow if it likes I wouldnt care - would be time to reunite Mum with a Zannussi Jetsystem LOL! Im sure the pressure switch determini water levels is buggered. Cotton wash levels are so low you can open the door 1 hour into a 95degree wash and feel dry laundry. Part of this water problem is the crappy drum design with god awful lifters that dont shower the water. My Mum never uses a Cotton cycle, always Synthetics which has a reasonable water level to wash with - and you can select a final spin of 1200rpm too so its fairly fuss free for her to wash cotton on this cycle. However this water level is too high to wash whites effectively even when its on a 60deg Synthetics. I have to fill up and pause the machine on Synthetics when the load is saturated and water touches the rubber seal. Then switch to Cotton and select 95degrees and Intensive. Also every 5 or so washes the option lights, lcd time and cycle status display erratically flash and intermittently show. The motor of late really makes a racket, I was on the phone the other day to Paul and commented how quiet it was (he could only just hear it doing 1200) when I mentioned it was at full speed. Only to walk away and hear it ramp up from 800 to 1200. For some reason the motor was making the 1200 noise at the lower speed. When it actually got to 1200 it was bloody noisy! Been like that since. They are extremely poor machines at keeping clean, In 30 years we have never had an Automatic FL thats needed maintenance washes, this one does. Grey slime lurks and its awful stuff to shift out of the seal and outer tub. Plus point to them is that they are quiet usually and sound incredibly like my Nanas Philco machine from the 80s when on a Synthetic wash with water swishing about. The noise always encaptures my memories of a child. Rob

Rob,
if you can open the door as you say 1 hour into a 95 degree wash and feel dry laundry and your mum never uses the cottons cycle then why didn't you get it looked at under warranty if it really is that bad. I've not seen one like that that i've sold from LG.

SparkCymru, I dont see the need to involve warranty engineers basically, from my own excellent experiences with my ex mother in laws and my own mothers LG machines which both have poor water levels, ex MOLs were slightly better but still didnt wet enough to clean properly or at least to an A rated standard, I would rather I myself use this machine as I am doing (not reporting the faults to my other wise oblivious parents) and let Mum get on with her own adapted way of doing laundry and let this machine die when it decides to which I pray is soon and have something from a what is IMHO A reputable company more experienced in producing well built quality laundry and cooking appliances that perform the task they should to exceptional standards day in day out without worry.

Which detergent does your mother use in the LG?

If she uses liquids regularly, they can build up to form a scummy residue.

Some manufacturers machines seem to be better designed at flushing dirt traps, like the door seal area, much better than others.

You say the lcd display is erratic...maybe it is having a brainstorm!

What?? Which type of plastic? What range of steam temperatures? I'll bet the manufacturers of Revere Ware wished they had known that before putting all of those Bakelite caps on their whistling teakettles for over 50 years. The same goes for KAZ and all of the other makers of steam vaporizers that have been sold over the past 8 or more decades.

I have had the bakelite knobs and handles fall off of my Revere ware pots years ago.and it was from heat that made them break and come off.Bakelite is a THERMOSET plastic-its heat resistent-but eventially high temps and steam will break it down.The pot set was years old when I got it-still have it-but some of the pans don't have their bakelite handles.Have to use a potholder or tongs to lift the lids.mostly the lids where I have the bad handles.

Can't you find replacement handles and knobs? I hope that you are very careful to avoid burning yourself with those old pans. Old hardware stores were treasure troves for the replacement knobs and handles. We never had any of the handles or knobs fail in over 40 years. They were always washed in the dishwasher, almost never put in the oven and mostly used on an electric range. High temperatures of dry heat were not part of their use. Your handles were exposed mainly to dry heat not live steam under pressure. Yes Bakelite is thermosetting plastic and it might have been the first or at least among the first of that type. It was fragile when hot. Our Frigidaire portable dishwasher had a Bakelite silverware basket and dad cautioned us to remove the flatware from the basket and leave it in place to lessen the chances for hitting it against something and having it shatter. As it was, we did not have the machine long enough to have the Bakelite age at all. You would not want thermoplastic for handles and knobs exposed to heat. Thermoplastics are used to make the sort of things that fold up in the heat of the dishwasher.
