Brand New Maytag MTW5600TQ

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

the center dial layout looks pretty classy. You should see it in person, it is nice.
The dial and knobs though, when you play with them, feel like crap. I don't know where WP got them, but quality and smoothness are NOT adjectives to describe them.
The rest of the machine is nice.

Hopefully, these are just "transition" models.

Ugh!

That looks just like the WP I just bought which I am not happy with. This weekend I'm definitely finding the LAV3600 somewhere and buying it. I think it's horrible that they are putting "Dependable Care" on that thing!

I think im in shock. Guess we knew it was coming. Runematic thanks for posting the pics.

Its gross. That horrible generic font they used to spell "Dependable Care" on the cheap painted panel only adds to my nausea. Just the sight of that horrible agitator sitting in that ugly speckled basket makes me very sad.

I don't think it's that bad. A white porcelain tub and a straight vane agi would have been much better.

Hopefully this is only a transition model and WP really will make Maytag a premium brand again.

Re: MagNorgetags:

I'm sorry but I used to have a Magic Chef washer and it was a pretty nice machine at lest it was better than Whirlpool crap which I haven't liked since they started putting the auger agis in there washers I would rather have a straight vane agi. and btw the Magic chef lasted around 7yrs. with no touble. Danf.

LAV3600

Since the folks I ordered the Maymana dryer from for my sister were so understanding and cooperative in my decision to not accept delivery, I feel I should do a little promotion on their behalf. They have the LAV3600 for $530, including shipping. No sales tax unless you're in Florida. Their online store is www.appliancesonlineus.com.

I don't know. when I see a Kitchen Aid style (exactly)silverware basket in the Whirlpool BOL dishwashers, I think: WHY? This CAN'T possible align the brand (Kitchen Aid) with a "TOL" premium image.

The next model up has a white porcelain basket. And the two top models have S.S.

I guess they left both knobs on the left side because the next models start adding knobs to the right side. I know for sure the MTW5700 has an extra rinse knob on the right side.

As far as temp selections go- more and more top loads have "cool" settings. I don't know if it's mandatory as of yet but it's part of the energy requirements. It's accomplished with ETC. Just cycles the hot off a little to dumb down the otherwise warm temp.

And I don't see a big problem with the use of Dependable Care. Not much of what Maytag built in the last 10 years has been all that dependable. Including the dependable care. I repair as many of the DC's I sold as I do NorgeTags. Stem seals/ tub bearings mainly. Anyway a direct drive (especially with the new heavy duty coupler) should be very depenable. Now the "care" part may be another story.

The rest of the non-stainless models will have the white porcelain basket. I also just got notice that the LAV will be discontinued by mid-Feb. The warehouses do seem to have a bunch in stock yet though.

As a Maytag, it's a pretty poor imitation. Can see where they're going with squared-off look, the horizontal line on the control panel (where the blue or gold trim once was) and the Maytag logo on the bottom left, though. Perhaps they hope consumers will pick up on these subtle styling cues, and assume that it's a real centre-dial machine which has merely been given a facelift for 2007.

Now, as the Whirlpool it really is, I quite like it. The styling on current WP branded TLs does absolutely nothing for me, so this offers a welcome alternative. Of course, aesthetics are purely subjective, and what one person would consider "understated", another would call downright plain and boring!

I wonder how many people who have had a bad experience with a Whirlpool will vow never to buy another one again, deciding to opt for a Maytag next time instead...oh dear.
