Brand New Maytag MTW5600TQ

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I don't like the Whirlpool brand machine's control board styling, so this for me is actually an improvement!

The Maytag of old is history, we must face this....just think what this machine may have looked liked, if Haier had gotten their hands on it!

Blessed is the Lord, I hope that all of those Legacy "Norgetags" at Home Depot just quietly disappear....whenever you guys get disgusted, visualize the "Legacy" monstrosities these will replace!

From a graphics and marketing standpoint, the silliest thing they could have done is the "Dependable Care" script! They had ONE chance to reinvent their image, and sell themselves...

Runematic, I hope these machines sell like hotcakes for you!

was at Hom* depot the other day and was looking at the maytag washers, just curious to see what they still had, with the whirlpool merge thing, they had a commercial machine with a stainless tub for about 450.00 "dependable care" and a 350.00 "dependable care" for 350.00 with a plastic tub,but it looks like I already have their latest model, My roper (whirlpool)its a great machine, but no maytag, and the maytags haven't been true maytags since the old center dial models.

Can't complain one bit about this washer, I wanted a match to my center dial maytag dryer,I did find one but was living in a third floor condo and was afraid of it leaking, so I decided to buy a new washer, I had picked out one at conn's,then I happened to find this one just like it that someone put out to the curb, the lid switch was broken, it couldn't have been over a year old, I've used it for four years and it's still like new.

New Center-Dials, sort of...

I agree that the control panel looks out of balence with the extra knobs on one side. And where's the light? Whenever I hear "Center Dial," I think that would look great with a light! My folks had a 1993 KM DD machine that I would rate a good medium. It was always dependable, never needed repairs, was ok on the clothes, and did an ok job washing. Whirlpool has traditionally been a reliable medium-grade manufacturer. Their goods have been dependable, and able to perform their duties consistently and thoroughally. Maytag, on the other hand, was always a high-grade manufacturer. Not all of their offorings were filled with bells & whistles, but their quality was second-to-none, and they did their respective jobs better than almost anyone else. Maytag tripped in the 1990s and produced some terrible designs which led to their downfall. It saddens me that Whirlpool is acting like a vulture and feasting on the dead remains. The final insult is putting a DD in Maytag clothing.
FOLKS, IT ISN"T A MAYTAG! It will not perform like a good Maytag, and it certainly will not last like one. Whirlpool has been a good medium, but you can't send an average machine to do a superior machine's job.
Maytag is dead. She died a painful death after a self-inflicted illness, and there was much suffering. The funeral was lead by Whirlpool, and following a brief service, her remains were unceremoniously buried upside down in a shallow, muddy, grave. Later this summer, there will be a simple graveside service where Maytag's next of kin can spit on the grave. The family issued a press release from their vacation-home in which they stated that they were saddened by the recent passing of their newest member, but were making it through the difficult times thanks to the inspiration of family-friend WCI.

A moment of silence please out of respect for the departed,
Dave

~I don't think it's that bad.
But Pat you LIKE WP washers....so this is not a stretch.

I still find it fascinating that WP is killing classic Maytag DC engineering. It's all about ego. Has WP not figured out that there are SO MANY brand names with their engineering and one-by-one they fizzle? Why add another?

Maytag
Estate
Roper
Inglis
Sears
Crosley
KitchenAid

Who have I forgotten?

If you are buying the rights to the patents and the engineering and the reputation as well as the factories and the talents of those working in and running them, WHY OH WHY KILL IT?

easy: EGO and market-share.

Whirlpool already has a reliable design with their dd washers Steve. Am i correct in saying that the one your mom has from the mid 80's is still working to this day?

I do agree though that the classic DC was a great long lasting and reliable design....let's face facts though, as you said..it is all about the bottom line, and i will be surprised if the current Kenmore i have now will even make it to the 10 year mark.

I just wish WP would lengthen the agitation stroke and slow it down a bit,..but otherwise it does what it is designed to do well enough.

It looks like the new Maytag is the old Roper. Well, the Roper does have the best repair history according to Consumer Reports, and that’s the only good thing I can say about it.

The bleach dispenser is big, but I hope it’s not the timed bleach dispenser used on the Kenmore line.

My neighbor complained that her Kenmore was “leaking” and it was less than 2 years old. After taking a look, the reservoir (just under the lid) that holds the bleach until it’s flushed out in the wash was clogged with lint and hair (it has a tiny hole). Every cycle it would dump a little water on the floor making her think there was a leak.

It’s an easy fix w/ a pipe cleaner once you get the top of the machine off. I explained it to her, as I'm sure it'll happen again, but the poor thing just kept saying, “But I don’t use bleach.”

Maytag Engineering

Let's be serious here. For at least 10 years Maytag has had some HORRIBLE engineering. For the sake of the brand, I am so glad Whirlpool has scooped them up. Like someone said earlier, think of how horrible their products would be if Haier bought them.
I am NOT a fan of the WP-DD, but it is by far, a superior design to what Maytag was cranking out within the last 10 years.

Maytag was making some good ranges, fridges and dishwashers....but why on earth they screwed up their laundry? I have no idea....but i'm sure Whirlpool is working on it, cuz Whirlpool laundry is...well, not my favorite, but it gets the job done with no fuss.

Has this machine been selling well, so far?

I haven't seen one yet in person, but I've seen reports of other posters here, spotting them....

And I just noticed the enlarged lid.

I saw a couple of these new models at "The Mart" yesterday and have to say that I was more impressed with the look than I thought I would be. I still wish they would use some buttons, but the higher end model is a little more balanced and the panel isn't as cheesy looking as I'd feared. The only dryer model I saw was a side-swing door with filter on the top, I hope they give the drop-down door and maybe even the 27" version a go in the Maytag line as well.

Right now, the only door offered is the swing door and I did not see any mention of the hamper door. As far as I know, the only size will be the 29" dryer.

I gave a friend a KitchenAid dryer with the side-swing door and while I was testing it in the garage with a few loads, I really liked the door out of the way. You have complete access to that massive drum which is nice and "people of smaller stature", like my friend, don't have to crawl inside to retrieve that last sock.
