So a few weeks ago at the thrift shop I saw a Braun Aromaster coffee maker and I've always liked how they looked. I passed it by but decided to go back today and see if it was there and it was so I got it, as I rarely see them. I don't actually drink coffee but I might be able to make tea with it. It's really clean but unfortunately I didn't realize the tabs on the handle that hold the lid for the carafe are missing. And I also have an issue with a piece on the bottom of the basket. It's not fitting right as I have a hard time getting the pot in and out. Could be something missing. I'm cleaning it up and testing it now.

Also was wondering the age, I will post pictures later. As I know these were made since the 80s, and are still being made I think for other countries. Also I saw a Braun grinder at another shop but left it as I have no need for one.

Aromaster stuff….

Cole--I have TONS of aromasters and associated bits/spares. Send me pics of what you have and/or model number (engraved on the underside of the base). Might be able to help you out. I know that I DO have a clear lucite swing out basket (OEM in box) for these which is used for tea making. It's a scarce thing!

I have that machine and the tea maker too!

I specifically bought that machine to accommodate the tea maker! I use both all the time (actually just made tea an hour ago). Mine is the Aromamaster Select I think. I'm so sad they don't sell them brand new in the US anymore.

Gillette acquired Braun . . .

. . . and then Procter & Gamble acquired Gillette so Braun small appliances got lost in the winnowing-out process of duplicate product lines.

Maybe it was for the better because P&G has a history of cheapening many of the products they acquire, shifting production out of the USA and eliminating useful features. PUR water filtration products are a prime example (no more integrated end-of-life monitor on the pitcher filter cartridges, no auto-shutoff when the faucet filters reach end-of-life, production ;moved out of Colorado, USA).

We had an Aromaster for many years.  Then I discovered the Braun FlavorSelect and got one of those -- in black.  The Aromaster was white and the area of the exterior around the top took on brown stains that I couldn't remove, so it became our spare/camping coffeemaker.

When we moved it was time to purge, and the FlavorSelect had been replaced by a Capresso Grind & Brew, so the FlavorSelect became the spare and the Aromaster got donated.

I saw an Aromaster on Ina Garten's counter while watching "Barefoot Contessa" on the Food Network and interpreted it as an endorsement, even if it was just a prop.

The Braun Aromaster was my favorite coffee maker of all time. I had 2 of the 10 cup models just like Ina's over the years. I was devastated when I found out that they were discontinued. Now I have a Bunn so all is good again

My mother bought a Braun in the late 1980s. Interesting story, actually. She previously had a Melitta. It died suddenly, and I remember her racing to the mall to replace it ASAP. As she told me, if she didn't replace it fast, my father would, and he'd replace it with whatever rock bottom coffee pot was on sale at someplace like K Mart. She wanted something better than that. She ended up with the Braun.

I really can't remember how that Braun worked. The best coffee I recall from that era was French Press, which we only had on special occasions. But from what I remember, the coffee from the Braun was more than good enough for daily coffee. As far as I recall, my mother was happy.

It's a KF400 10 cup. I am missing the little piece that covers the hole on the bottom of the basket. It has the large piece and the spring but not the smaller piece. I don't have the clear plastic flavor seal that attaches to the carafe lid either.

Otherwise it all seems to be there. The coffee stains in the basket housing seem difficult to remove, I tried rubbing alcohol and denture cleaner. I guess it's as clean as it can get.

Also, how do I find out how old it is? There doesn't seem to be a serial number, it says type 4085/kf400/420. There is a number 930 stamped under that.

Cole, do you see what you need in either of these two pictures?

These parts have been knocking around in a drawer for years.  I'm pretty sure they're off a Braun.

Braun appliances are back

Indeed. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and they had some of those Braun appliances. There was a hand blender and a programmable coffee maker. I was hoping to see Aromasters as well but there were none.

I have never had an Aromaster, I've seen a few at sales here and there but never picked one up.  My programmable Presto twin-element drip machine died a few weeks ago and after doing some asking around and reading, I settled on a new Braun BrewSense.  $80 at Bed Bath & Beyond after coupon.  So far, I'm pretty impressed, makes a good cup and keeps it hot.  There are settings for carafe temp, coffee strength (anyone know how this setting works?) and of course, the programming for the time on & off.
