It isn't very often that I get the chance to make breakfast on a Saturday morning.  I've been craving homemade waffles for quite some time so today it was time to satisfy my desire.  I found this waffle iron in my Grandma Baumann's living room closet when cleaning out her home about 10 or so years ago after she moved to an  assisted living center.  It was found in the original box, the hang tag, and the instruction guide.  It was so clean that it looks like it was only used a few times before being put away.

I served the waffles with real WI maple syrup and steamed kielbasa.

This recipe has never failed me.  This is the recipe my Grandma Wilde used.

Sour Milk Waffles

2 eggs

2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

1 tsp. baking soda

2/3 tsp. baking powder

¼ tsp. salt

2 cups sour milk

5 tbsp. melted butter or margarine

Beat eggs, add milk, add sifted flour with soda and baking powder.  Add remaining dry ingredients.  Lastly, add melted butter.  Bake in a preheated waffle iron until steaming stops.

Tip:  To make your own sour milk, measure 4 tsps. white vinegar into a 1 cup measuring cup, and add enough milk to equal 1 cup.  Let stand about 5 minutes before adding to your recipe.

Very nice. I'd keep the packinging and tags, because it has to be really rare to have them now.

I've been wanting to make waffles for a while now, you have me wanting to do it tomorrow. I might have to put the waffle iron and Mixmaster to work.

We had a 70's Dominion waffle maker growing up, always remember it did a great job.  That recipe looks really good - will have to try it, thanks for sharing it.

I remember my grandmother making sour milk for recipes and as a work-around for buttermilk if she was out.

Looks and I bet Smells, tastes GOOD-Nothing like waffles made on an old time waffle machine.Since the grills are reversible-bet this machine can make GREAT grilled cheese sandwiches too!I heat my syrup in the microwave so its HOT and doesn't cool off your hot waffles!

Yummm...

thanks for the recipe! We got a nice Sunbeam waffle-maker in '71 and have used it maybe 5 times (due to pure laziness, looking at you Eggos!) Think it's time to break it out and do it right, thanks for the motivation!

Since it's usually just me, I will prepare a whole batch and freeze them and reheat in toaster oven.  I too add a bit of vanilla to the batter each time.  (for both waffles and pancakes)
