My current apartment has a twenty-inch Brown gas stove, and I absolutely LOVE it! Even-heating oven, smart yet simple styling, probably from the '90s but still has chrome trim. I did a little research and found that Brown Stove Works is the oldest appliance company in America that has not been absorbed by a bigger company. Is anyone else familiar with this brand? Anyone have some pics of REALLY vintage Browns?

Not My Favorite!

I once lived in a new apartment complex that had Browns in every kitchen - along with BOL Hotpoint everything else.

The Hotpoint stuff worked quite well - we all had frost-free top-mount fridges and dishwashers and Disposalls.

But the Browns were evil - horrible bakers that could not turn out so much as a tuna casserole without burning one side and leaving the other raw.

This was not confined to the Brown in my apartment - pretty much everyone had trouble. I remember the resident manager saying once that in all her years managing properties, she'd never had straight guys come to her complaining about stoves.

Until then.

Sandy,

LOL. I remember admiring a turquoise/aquamarine Brown 24" stove a couple of weeks ago until you told of this experience. After that I quickly became disinterested.

Still around too

I have been

By the factory in Cleveland Tennessee, I think the OLD Browns of the 50s and early 60s were good stoves, but like everything else they got really really cheap, I would love to find a 1950s or early 60s Brown Featuramic range.

I had a Brown range in my first adult apartment (it was almond, probably about 20 years old around that time). It cooked ok, but the damn pilot light in the oven would go out at the drop of a feather. Only worse stove I've had was in college, some avocado monstrosity which was never cleaned which had have the burners lit with "ponts" (kind of skinny candles). Can't remember that brand, but student ghetto rental...
