We'll we've lived without this for 6 years so its definitely time for this new feature.

You'll notice on the blue bar above each post in the extreme right column is a graphic with "Select-o-Dial" on it. If you bring your mouse and hover over the graphic a menu should drop down.

If you created the post below and has it been less than 6:00 hours since you posted it you should get a "EDIT your post" option. Select it and it sends you back into the post creation screen and this allows you to now edit, re-preview and update your post. Six hours is the time limit before the Editing feature expires.

If you make changes to your post within 15 minutes of creating it, it won't be noted in the post that it has been edited. Between 0:15 and 5:59 hours after posting it, if you edit it a little red blurb will be at the bottom of the post stating that your post has been edited.

Give it a try in here if you wish. Create a test post in this bug thread and edit it and see how it works for you.

This was a MAJOR change to the entire posting system so I suspect we will find bugs again, please let me know ASAP if you find anything strange going on.

I'll probably start working on the delete post feature next week. The nice thing about the new Select-o-Dial menu is I will be able to add new features to this menu as we continue on without cluttering up the threads with icons all over the place.

Thanks everyone, let the bug reporting begin!!![this post was last edited: 4/29/2010-15:41]

cheking it out

Wanted to post this, edit it now, then come back later and try it after awhile. Looks like it is working great. [this post was last edited: 4/29/2010-20:19]

oooh this will be fun.

I can't wait to get those little friendly emails.

"BITCH, fix your spelling." or

"Sweetie, darling, are you SURE you meant to post that XXX picture?

Test

Ay-Yup, it works.
Thank you, Robert.
A small suggestion, if I may?
Perhaps a note about the 15 minutes and 6 hours?[this post was last edited: 4/29/2010-16:07]

Looks like the only bug I have found so far is it appears that the system is reporting the post has been edited even if it was less than 15 minutes on some posts. I'll check that out later since its not critical a error as far as I can tell.

Louis its not doing it on every post, the bug is being selective.

HA Louis I answered you above your post lol! [this post was last edited: 4/29/2010-16:34]

oh you meant agitators!

There are black ones, there are white ones there are yellow ones.

But when it's blue like that you may have a problem with your snap-on accessories being too tight!

Woo-hoo!

Let's give it a try... this is so cool, thank you, Robert!

Everything seems to be working very well so far here.[this post was last edited: 4/30/2010-00:02]

Robert, love the new features

All your hard work is coming to fruition. Hope you don't mind a little critique. The features are all great the only thing that feels off to me is the header on each section. With all the additions it feels a bit clumsy and a little busy. I would suggest dropping the update profile and log-out, as these are used less on a regular basis, at least by me. They are fine on the main forums page, that would seem to be the logical place for them.

I like the addition of the search function and perhaps it could be placed where the log-out content is now. Perhaps that would clean up the spacing a bit because it feels, again to me, a bit top heavy.

Perhaps something on this order, remove the duplicated circular link to the current forum, and simplify down to 3 main links, plus the sub links. When the future sections are added they could be placed to the right, creating a set of push button options or cycle selections...

Just a thought.......

Speaking of toilets, the internet to the rescue.

This house has a one-piece American Standard can, circa 1966. Elongated seat (hard to find replacements for that). Problem has been persistent leaks through the valve assembly. I changed it over to a Fluidmaster valve, but it has never "set" quite right, and now it's leaking again, about 1/4 tank a day.

10 years ago when I checked with a local plumbing supply house, they said "good luck finding a replacement valve".

Oh and here's an edit...

But after a little Googling I found the exact (I hope) replacement valve assembly. I ordered it plus two extra sealing "disks" to keep this thing flushing for years more. I'll be happy to rip out the Fluidmaster makeshift valve assembly and put in the original stuff again.

Rich,

We have a toilet in my partner's 108 year old house with similar problems.
After many attempts and failures, I found a Fluidmaster solution which might work for you.

It is no longer on the market, so you'd have to look through flea markets to find it - I'd send you a scan, if I were in the US.

Basically, it is a stainless steel seat and hi-tech valve assembly which is held in place against the old seat with a non-drying compound. Feels a lot like the stuff your dentist uses to make a negative of your teeth, but waterproof and totally gripping.

Repair takes all of two minutes and holds.

Might help. I hope.

Robert,

The changes you have conjured up are fantastic!
Everything is so easy to use and saves time!
Thanks for all of your hard work!

Brent

All your hard work is coming to fruition. Hope you don't mind a little critique.

Hi Matt, not at all I certainly do appreciate the feedback. While I don't always agree with it, it is very interesting to hear how others think. One thing to keep in mind is I'm trying to design not necessarily for 2010 but for 2015 so I wont have to do this again for a long time. If you go to Best Buy and look at the new laptops and desktop monitors the lowest resolution you can buy is 1920 x 1080. While many users are still on a 1280 x 1024 monitor they wont be for many more years.

Look at how the design looks on my modern 2010 model 1920 x 1080 monitor...

1920x1080.jpg

Now look at the same design on my vintage 2004 model 1280 x 1024 monitor...

1280x1024.jpg

Its a bit crowded on the vintage monitor but I think it still works well. When designing for the internet you really need to try and maintain a balance while staying focused on the future. Hope that makes sense at least that's what I've been told by other web developers.

So lets see...

If I press this button and type some stuff over here... yup, so far, so good.

And now, an edit a bit later...

Sweeeeet. Works great, Robert! :-)
