buzzers on tumble dryers in the UK

Hi everyone.

Silly question, but it bugs me!

I know older dryers, the more digital sensor ones, had a buzzer when the dryer finished, but nowadays with more sensor dryers, not just digital ones, do the latest dryers still have a buzzer, or do they beep at the end-of-cycle? I know a lot of dryers in the US still buzzer.

Why I don't know? My dryer is a 372W White Knight compact, which doesn't even have the luxury of a reverse tumble! lol

There's nothing wrong with those little White Knight dryers IMO. If you're short on space and don't dry that much, they're perfect. I had a Zanussi Condenser and it has this really annoying bleeping at the end of the cycle that gets louder and more frequent until you open the door. However, my Mum's Hotpoint TL51 doesn't do anything - it just stops. So I think it's a case of some do, and some don't. I know Miele dryers have them but it's optional. Hope this helps.

I'm not complaining! It's a great dryer, just a shame it doesn't reverse! It's quite good actually, it dries most of a full load for us, bar a few items that we don't tumble dry anyway (jeans, designer t-shirts etc.)

I know dryer signals are optional, but do they buzz or do they bleep? I know early dryers in the 80's and 90's all did. I think Hotpoint must still have buzzers, or you never know, you may be able to customise and choose the signal!!!

I'm not sure about Hotpoint buzzers, but my fairly new Zanussi has a really stupid bleeping noise that I can't switch off. Highly annoying. I had one of those White Knight compacts before I got the Zanni and it was a much better dryer. It just didn't hold much.

I have a Zanussi TCE7227 condenser dryer from 2007. Its has optional beeps. There on by default but there is a button to turn them off. Would be nice if it was the other way around. I only use it when drying something in a rush!

Our Electrolux beeps, too. Just like our microwave, oven, dishwasher etc... The old AEG we had did actually have a buzzer.

I wish the signal would be louder because our dryer is in the basement - you don't hear it unless it's totally silent in the house. The signal changed since we had to have the electronics replaced. It now beeps when the wrinkle guard comes on and then every five minutes, or so. With the old electronics, it would signal every time the drum turned during anti-crease.

Actually, I found out that I can permanently disable any sounds on this dryer by pressing and holding Signal Off and Low Temp when the dryer in on. Not mentioned in the manual. I can also fine-tune the dryness level so clothes are always a little more or less dry than on the standard setting. Again, nothing mentioned in the manual! I only found out about this because I read an AEG/Electrolux manual and the function was mentioned in there and I remembered I discovered something similar on our dryer...

Yes, that fine tuning was in my machines manual. It says it is for selecting the water hardness in your area. Scotland has soft water so mine is set for the minimum setting and have had no problems with the dryness levels. Strange that your machine doesn't advertise that!

My electrolux has a Buzzer button - you can opt to have it make annoying noises, or stop when the laundry's dry.

Miele dryers have a buzzer, and a programmable function (via various key combinations) to change the volume and the tone of the beep!
