Also,
there are temporary ways to disable a safety switch (better if one is mechanically challenged, or the machine still under warranty)...like sticking a ruler/yardstick/paint stirrer between the lid and frame of a (real) Maytag.
And then, there are ways of opening up a machine and disconnecting some wires. I would not do that if there were very small children in the house on a regular basis, however.
