Hi all, well, here is my daily driver, the old C-20 that is such a great design. I actually own 4 of these that I picked up here and there... but of course I came across a c-30 top in the process...

Here is the c-30 sunbeam

I actually picked up the upper part at an estate sale and just recently picked up the lower part. The thing is, both are hardly used -- I think the top part was never used. But now that I have them together I can see that the gasket on the top part has hardened and is no longer useful. (that's why I like the C-20 better anyway)

throw caution to the wind

I hated to do this but since it is not good what the heck. I know there is a fellow who sells replacement gaskets out there and I certainly applaud him doing that but I thought I would give this a try. SO is use my 60's belt sander a little at a time to knock down that gasket so it will just fit into the coffee maker. Yes it took 4-5 times delicately honing that gasket, and a little vegetable oil, to see if I could make this perfect but hardened gasket fit

Well here it is and it works perfectly. I searched and searched on the internet and could find nothing on this except that it was shot. But hopefully someone out there can fix their old c-30.

BTW

I figured I had too many of these old vacuum coffee makers so I sold this Cory/Nicro one on ebay... I tried it out and figured without the automatic feature it was just too much work...

So a few days later a truly beloved aunt who had died.. their family let everyone go to the "estate sale" before Goodwill came, and I didn't even go, my wife brought home this... it is a C-50 in just perfect condition. So I can't seem to get away from these coffee makers -- they do make the superior cup of brew. Thanks for looking and happy holidays. --Brian

Thank you for coming up with another way to keep our Sunbeam vacuum pots running!
That was nice of you to share this information with us.

Yes, those Sunbeam pots do make great coffee. So smooth and mellow. Great to wake up to in the morning. We use a Cory all glass pot because I demand a clean pot to start with each morning and you can't put the Sunbeam in the dishwasher, is what I do with the Cory all glass model. I'm too lazy to clean a Sunbeam pot every day.

I'll have to try this fix. Currently, when I want to use mine I have to dip the top in boiling water to soften the gasket so I can fit the halves together. Then, I have to be near when the coffee is done and pull the top off while it is still very hot (hotter than the temp the maker keeps the coffee at when done). Would be much safer doing your method.

That's 120 sandpaper, but I think a finer one would be better. I carefully went around the gasket, and it was still a little difficult, so I tapered it a little too.
