Based on their comments during oral arguments, I'll be surprised if our state Supreme Court throws out Prop 8. We'll find out on Tuesday.

If they do uphold it, their explanation of why gay people are not covered under the equal protection clause of our state constitution should be a real hoot.. Especially in light of their decision and comments on Prop 22 just a few years ago.

The LDS has a specific axe to grind. They can't stand seeing same-sex marriages recognized by the same government which outlawed their own "alternative lifestyle" (polygamy). Many in their church believe polygamy is a God-given right, and just as they contributed the bulk of No on 8 financial support in California, the vast majority of financial and political support to outlaw polygamy came from outside Utah and Idaho. I understand their resentment and animosity.

I don't know if you've been following this other story, two idiot couples (I believe they're shills, because no one could intentionally be this stupid) have filed suit in FEDERAL court against Prop 8. If this suit makes it to the SCOTUS it will set our movement back at least 20 years, probably more.

Oh, yes, Jeff

I've followed the story and it is obvious - look at the lawyers involved - what they are after.

We both know that the fabulous gene may code for fashion sense. Intelligence, not necessarily.

Of course, we have no one to thank for this other than ourselves.

The social democrats, the Jews, the devout Catholics and the homosexuals all found out in 1933 what comes of trying to appease monsters. I see no difference between the christianists and the National Socialists, except, maybe, the christianists have learned to temper their public image a bit.

Until they have power - again.

Torture, suspension of civil rights, trampling on the constitution, it's not just history, we just had eight years of it.
