Calling on Kenmore Front Loading experts( HE 3t) from around 2002-2004

The woman that gave it to me said that she had replaced the broken plastic door latch; it still did not work. The door still will not latch, nor will the machine start the program. What do you think?

I think it's broken. Yes, that's it!! It's broken!

Do the lights light up? Do ALL of the buttons respond when pressed? If the answer is yes to those questions it will most likely need a Central Control Unit. However before I go that far I would check all the connections on the door lock and all the connections on the CCU and MCU. Don't just look at them, pull each one off, look at the harness connector and look at the place on the board where the connector plugs, make sure it all looks good and is clean. Only pull one connector at a time and remember the position of the connector, this machine is not like the old ones. It can get a little intimidating but it's really easy once you get the hang of it. If any of the contacts on the edge connectors looks pushed down too far you can take a sewing needle and VERY GENTLY bend the contact back into position. But be careful and be gentle. One false move and you might end up buying a new harness.

It does light up &wash-rinse-spin, ect.

It was washing up until the other day. My friend that gave it to me bought another and was happy to let me have it. The door has a new latch on it, however will not close. Otherwise, even though it is a little rough, it works. I will look at the wire harnesses and see what I come up with.

If it won't close then it needs a door lock assembly.

What happened to that washer? It really looks like it has been run though the mill. Is there a chunk of plastic missing from the front widow? Looks like dogs clawed the hell out of the plastic on the door.

It has had a rough life

It came from a house with big dogs. so yes, you are correct Whircool. I took the plastic piece completely off, it is quite an improvement. And yes, this is the broken part.

Why did you take the entire front off the machine?

Well, it was very dirty when I got it, so not only does this give me an easy way to clean it, I can replace the part, and put it back together.

That's true. When it's your own machine you have the time to do that.

I'm sorry about the door on this washer. I have almost the exact washer (2005 model). It were appear that you could purchased a door through Sears, but would it cost a fortune? When I had my washer put in, I should have had the delivery men rearrange the doors. I didn't know later that this could be done.

What probably happened is those dogs thought that clothes being washed was "entertaining" for them and they jumped at the door trying to "catch" the prey (the laundry). I've seem television sets damaged the same way from dogs.
