The holidays

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Haven't posted in while as I have been so busy I only have time every now and then to check in to see what is going on. I really miss my old "every other day or so" schedule but hopefully one of these days it will come back. ((--::

Thanks norgeway for the crust recipe. No I haven't tried it yet but it is on my list. I do now use the food processor which does totally cut down on the work and doesn't really alter the flakiness of the crust. At least I don't think it does.

I know it's a reproduction (but I don't care)! Here is one thing I got as a gift for the house. I love it and it will look great when it is hung above the chesterfield.

Wow! Where'd you find that?

I found mine in Goodwill, it didn't even sit for a minute after the attendant brought it out! Walmart, of all places, sells passable knock-offs of the George Nelson Ball Clock. A brand new one will set you back around $335.00. Here's my Elgin, with works from Germany:

Holidays over...

...I just hate to see the holidays end and the sad chore of taking down the tree draw nearer and nearer.

I do believe I found a beautiful tree this year and the wpnderful part is that now I will roll it outside and plant it in the ground. ((--::

Hi Eddie-Thanks for your extremely nice comments. The house continues to grow on me and amaze me everyday. I must post more pictures soon.

Patrick-I was too late to check out the listing. It had expired. Good idea- it would be nice to have another one waiting patiently in the sidelines.

On a positive note, I did get the Desperate Housewives game of "Dirty Laundry" (he-he) for Christmas. Would anyone like to come out and play it with me???? ((--::

It's even better..

than I thought. I love the tile countertops and that retro electric skillet. The Flair, KitchenAid dishwasher, and the Philco refrigerator really make the room complete and it's great that everything now works as it originally did. The bamboo ceiling is too die for! Lets see some more pics of the other rooms.

....for all your nice comments. They pump me up and make me feel like I am headed in the right direction. I've set up my pantries that would allow me to be "holed" up in the house for quite a spell. AND with the terrific spikes in gas prices with no let up in sight, that might just become feasible.

Looks like a perfect '60's house. Great work. Don't know if you have any historic preservation groups in your area but soon you could qualify as a historic property. It is great to see someone buy an 'older' house and not immediately throw everything out. Here in Cape May the first thing people do is gut the house and turn it into something it was never meant to be. Fortunatly they cannot change the outside of the Victorians even thought some would like to tear them down and put up McMansions.

Clocks are one of my vices, I've had to restrain myself from getting one of the George Nelson Ball Clock knock-offs from eBay, I'll have to go back to Walmart and check for their cheapie version again.

 

That entire house is just too wonderful to be believed! Who wouldn't want to live there?

Another shot of the master bath and the original (I do believe) plastic pull curtain to cover the frosted window. The M/B also has a slider in it which is kind of nice. It opens out to another patio in the front of the house.

I'm not taken with the aqua color as there is too much blue in it. I want more pastel green tint in it.

Harry-funny you mention that as some time ago the town chamber of commerce hinted that I consider making it into a B and B.

The master bedroom....

....Spotted this dresser and two night tables almost buried in the sand along side the road on my way home thru the upper desert outside of Lucerne Valley. The Silverado came to an "almost" immediate halt and they all jumped on.

It took a little doing in cleaning them up but they did so nicely. At least I think so.

Dick your inherent good taste, attention to detail and hard work are making a museum quality home.  Now, sand the old bug a boos in your head and give the reisitance to moving a good scrub.  Move in the house and you can still go to the hills to hang out with the old days, but embrace the new for all our sakes.  This is crazy making to see such a fabulous sit empty waiting for your sunshine to brighten it up.

Its like looking at somewhere from TV land.. Your stove reminds me of Bewitched I remember watching that show and wishing I was old enough to have a house like that ! I am now old enough but in the wrong country lol You my friend have it all and I have to say you are doing an amazing job your house is absolutely beautiful.

Easter Reserrection

Dick, my Flair was trashed by the time dinner was on the table. I did a Leg of Pork in the small oven, measuring it to be sure before I bought it. There was a 22 pound Turkey in the big oven. I have no idea what went on while I was at church, but the turkey, nested well within the confines of it's roaster, shot a puddle of fat in one corner of the oven. When he turkey was ready, it came out to bake the Vasileopita (Toggles, please correct the spelling) while I mashed the tropic blend potatoes, onions, garlic, apples, sweet potatoes and white potatoes. The onions wrap around the beaters turning them into clubs which spatter orange glop everywhere. In the last hurrah of pulling stuffing, steaming asparagus, thickening the gravy and carving the Turkey and Pork some one rolled the stone away to reveal a Flair covered head to foot with every kind of culinary overspray. While guests were filling their plates all the pans were washed, the stove wiped down and the burners stowed. Like any veteran Flair owner, I killed the oven lights so no one would see inside. After the guests went home, I pulled the glides and racks and sent them through the dish washer while the oven got polished with SOS and Windex. By morning it looked no worse for wear. I am gratified to see a Sunbeam mashing the potatoes.
