....you were right! With my focus being on the upcoming sewer system installation I was not keeping track of the real estate market. It looks like if I did consider putting the house on the market, I could stand to make a pretty penny. Still considering my options.

At the present, I have taken on a temporary (but lucrative) position 50 miles away from home and am commuting daily. I really did need to take this on for many reasons. As such, my focus has been redirected for the time being. Will keep you all informed.

My friends at Coldwell Banker tell me houses continue to increase in value each month and that properties are moving quickly since the inventory of short sales and foreclosures is rapidly drying up. The longer you keep your home the better. You may end up finding yourself on the other side of the septic-to-sewer conversion and staying put. Congrats on the new job. A 50 mile commute isn't too bad provided you're not using the Olds 442...rocket fuel is expensive.

I will have it easy this year. I will be doing the turkey, dressing, pots, yams, and rolls--friends will be bringing veggies and assortment of pies! I'm getting smart in my golden years.

My hubby and I listen to vinyl over cocktails with a very similar VM phono. That thing will outlast us!
Yes, the reject button on the front is really handy, especially when listening to Yma Sumac LOL !
Can you post the model # ? I may have some service lit if you want.

Actually a picture of your unit is posted on the first page of their site.
( I was part of the gang that cleaned out that factory that ultimately ended with that new V-M website. I am not affiliated with that site but I do have lots of VM materials to share ).

.....for your great input about Voice of Music. I have always been a fan and have really loved their changers that seem to be indistructable and just keep going and going. I had one in a Symphonic table model back in the late 50s and it ran forever.

I really like this VM table model and am really taken by it's tone and acoustic contour controls. I do think it was really a bit ahead of its time.

BTW, the model # is 557. I will be looking for a new cartridge soon.

Oh, and thanks for your nice comment on my home. I've already changed out some of the furniture and just yesterday brought home another new truckload! OMG!What am I doing.

Will take some updated pictures soon. I think you will admit that the changes only tend to enhance the home. I hope that is what you'll say! ((--::

Thanks Al for your positive comment-it is much appreciated. However, there were a couple of items I had placed about the living/dining rooms that I wasn't quite happy with. I am taking pictures on Christmas and will post a few to show you what I did. I am now completely content with the new changes and will leave as is.

I also want to thank everyone who urged me to hang on. It would have been a very tramatic experience and great loss within my soul for me to sell the house at this time. I am too connected to it and love how it makes me feel when I'm in it.

On a sad note-my beautiful Philco refer is on its way out. The compressor is starting to go and it won't cycle. I hate to think of looking for another ice box and wonder if anything can be done to keep the old dear running. I assume a compressor can't be fixed but I wonder if a replacement is something I might think about. Don't know a thing about compressors.

Don't give up on the fridge yet!
You might want to post a new topic about it, so it will catch the eye of experts here! ( I'm not ) but have had the same thing happen with my old girl ( was not cycling ) only to find the it just needed to be recharged.
409 A was the refrigerant the appliance guy used to recharge mine.

Thanks for posting more photos, it was great to see how your home was looking over Christmas. Looking at the photos I was surprised (and impressed) to see how well it looked. Truely, it could have graced the pages of any home improvement back in the day and yet by todays standards it still looks quite fresh and modern. You have done a REALLY good job with it.

Sorry to hear that the old Philco is giving up the ghost, I hope you can get it running again. If not I guess it will have to be a bottom freezer Frigidaire to go along with the Flair, just like Mrs Stevens

.....what a looker! Absolutely beautiful! Yes, I will have it checked out but at present, with me spending so much time away from the house, I unplugged it to avoid any disasters while it sits unattended. What I've gathered up to this point is that the compressor is getting tired and ......well you know what that means. I will post another thread specifically for the old gal. I would love to keep it going.

And Al, it just dawned on me-my last name would be Stevens if it weren't for the addtional "on" tacked on to the end!!! AND, thanks for you great comment! ((--:: I need to post pics of the other rooms and tell you what I've changed.

,,,,"I'm so glad we've had this time together". Just looked at the date I originally posted this - May 2nd, 2010! Less than three months from now and it will be starting its fourth year. OMGawwwd! Does time ever start passing faster when you are not only having fun but also packing on those years! ((--::

This project I took on late in life has become the love of my life--a dream that I never thought would materialize in my lifetime and become a reality-and what a wonderful one at that. I am living my dream to be taken back in time to the 50s and 60s. Well, as much as I can that is. (Wish I could do something about the price of gas!) a Big Ha! on that one.

I want to thank each and everyone of you who tuned into this thread for your continuing help and support and ever so nice comments along the way. I do believe it was all your great thoughts and suggestions that kept this going all this time. There is a "little" of all of you in my home.

I said before I always wanted a " Bewitched " house it was so big and luxurious and I was in love with the kitchen. Its not going to happen now but being able to share the beautiful house you have shown us all has satisfied my yearning.

Suggestion

When I worked in the Charleston, SC area, One of our High School Career Centers had classes on HVAC and Refrigeration. They loved fixing and repairing Refrigerators and I saw many older units. You might check to see if the local high school has such a program. It would be a great teaching opportunity for them. Refrigeration has not really changed that much. And you could get it repaird for the parts. Who knows they could solve the problem for ya. Don't give up on it!.

House and life

Some of us are so tied to our houses..haven't owned any in terms of what the bank calls OWN, but have built two and moved 12 times. Reading ozzie908's message, I can't help feel a little the same. Not sure where we'll end up, but hopefully back in a house and back to a blended mid-century look in and out. We've had our big houses, so your house looks just right, Dick. I especially like how it looks like a time-warp, like going back into a house in the early to mid 60's...and like the dividers that , to me anyways, look like water (ever see a Hokusai Japanese print with water - they remind of water every time and then, a little Frank Lloyd Wright-ish. Everyone here extracts something differently for sure, but all enjoy what you've done. For a while there, I thought you were decided on leaving...but glad you managed through the turmoils, whatever proportions. It's like art or music - you put your soul into the house and it's giving back to you and everyone who has an appreciation of house.

Keep Going...the ride is far from over and Ozzie908...hope you get a surprise or six along the way - life is still full of them.

And Joe, haven't been able to as yet but will take your advice and contact the Yucca high school and see if they offer a shop class on refrigeration. I plan to do all I can to save that refrigerator.

Re: the old Philco refer

Just wanted to let you know that a "hardstart" will be put on the Philco very soon. I have been told that it might work for a couple of days and then again it might solve the problem and work for God only knows how long! I hope it's the latter. I just can't see starting a new thread for this news. I will let you know the outcome.

hardstart

Hi Phil-A hardstart is not a recharge to the compressor system but rather help and support via an electrical boost which is attached to the relay on the compressor to get a tired old compressor to come to life again. Each time it is needed to start up it gets a jolt of electrical stimulus to get it going again. It hasn't been installed yet-I'm hoping it will be next week. I'll let you know.

And John it will be great to see you again this summer. Looking forward to it very much. Glad you like the house.

Do you know for sure that is not low in refrigerant? Maybe she needs both... A peacemaker, and a transfusion LOL.
Shes so nice, I'd try to save her if you can, even if you have to hunt down a replacement (transplant) compressor!
