Can a vacuum bag be washed?

I got a Kirby vacuum for free after a yard sale.
Works great, smells really bad. Very doggy.
Can it be washed, if so, how,and in what detergent to get rid of the funk?

I handwash them in the bathtub with a very mild detergent. Some models like the blue Tradition bag bleed the color easily so be careful. What model Kirby is it?

It is a Heritage II. grey bag with red k's on it.
It was at the side of the road with a sign on it that said free and an extra bag and belt taped to the handle.

I wash all my "new"upright bags in my LG/handwash cycle.They come out remarkably clean!I do not unzip them until after they're done and line dry them.

I tossed the bag from my used Kirby Omega in the wash on gentle cycle and it came out fine, just DO NOT put it in the dryer. Air dry only...
