So, the rust stains on my clothes came from the bearing rim of my 8 year old front load Gibson gas dryer. I ordered the repaccement glide/felt for the front seal, but the paint is all worn off the bearing edge of the drum. Is there a paint one can use that holds up to the heat and friction, or is this a lost cause? The instructions for replacing the felt say 'the paint should be intact on the drum'...

You could try repainting it with a high temperature spray paint but I'm not sure how long before it would wear away.

I had this same thing happen several years ago on a WCI made Frigidaire dryer. I would open the dryer door and find a piece of clothing caught in the gap between the drum and the cabinet and it would end up with a permanent rust mark on it. I replaced the felt/glides and took a 3M pad and cleaned off all the rust on the rim of the dryer but did not repaint it. After replacing the glides the clothes didn't seem to get caught or rust stains anymore but about 2 years later the glides were wearing out again. That combined with the dryer shutting off before the clothes were dry and the rear bearing always needing relubing I went and bought a new one at Best Buy on sale for about $190.00. I bought another Frigidaire because I wanted it to match the front load washer. It turns out they got smart and redesigned the drums front glide system and it doesn't look like it could ever wear out now. Unfortunately the new system doesn't fit the old style dryer.
