Can someone pin a date on this vintage belt drive?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

These are great washers, fully featured too. IMO, much more flexible and user friendly than a push button Lady K. And you get a light above the dial!

It is possible that Melvin was pointing out that, while this is a 1972 model Kenmore, that it was made in late 1971 per the serial number.

Early 70s KM Washer

Serial # C146, this machine was built in Clyde Ohio the 46th week of 1971.

This was a very good model in its day, but unless its in far better shape inside there are many things that it probably needs ti restore it to proper operation.

Major problems of this model were , Timer, Self-Cleaning filter, Detergent dispenser valve, Thin Quiet-Pac belt, Motor pulley shearing loose , Main center-post bearings [ all wp built washers before the introduction of double top seals only had a life of 8-12 years on the main bearings and spin-tube ]

Plus all the usual things that may be wrong with a washer of this age.

I didn't know this model had the skinny Quiet Pak belt.  Odds are that the original green one was replaced long ago with a later type that lasts far longer.

This does have the skinny belt. The detergent valve also is barely/ not working. Something is up with the transmission, it literally takes a minute to engage back to agitate. It’s a cool machine but likely this unit will be parted out. It’s pretty rusty and honestly I don’t find it good looking enough to restore.

Ma had this model in her townhouse, mid 80's in copper tone..
Leaked, and shook the whole house with terrible noise during spin
Replaced with a direct drive Kenmore...

DId that dryer come from the same house as this washer did? Its too bad it needs multiple things, it is a neat old machine. I was amazed at how quiet it was could only hear the pump whooshing when it was running. Must be because of the skinny belt?

1972 70 Series

ElginKid has this in Harvest.

I LOVE this washer! It's quiet, the Roto Swirl does a great job, the detergent dispenser is fun, and it sounds soothing. Bonus points if its a suds saver. I might be interested in some parts if this one gets partd out.
