Hello,

Can someone please help me to identify this Kenmore Dryer? It is listed for sale close to me, but it needs a heating coil. The owner told me that they could not find the serial/vin number. I would like to get this dryer, but I need to identify it in order to try to find the correct part for it.

Thanks,

I can tell you the vintage is late '70s - 1980 or so.  Kenmore experts here can advise on the model number, or where to find it.  I think the coil will be easy to find.  Not a lot changed on Whirlpool-sourced dryers over the years.  These dryers are reliable and good performers.

1980-1981 Series 80. The Series 70 had the smaller pocket door if my memory chips are working correctly.

The dryer should be a 1981 model as I have the same one in white. Elements are still available and if for some reason the model/serial tag is gone the part number will be on the element itself. That’s a great dryer go ahead and get it and we can assist with the repair. Let us know how it goes.

Kenmore dryer in Charlotte

Hello everyone,

Finally I have some downtime to post on here (it’s been a while). Great dryer!

My Mom bought one of these in a set in December 1982. We retired it in 2018, still working. I put a WP rebuild kit in it around 2007, and later an element.

There were four versions of this dryer starting in 1981, with the 110.861741x0. The model number I gave here is for white. There was also a 1982 model, 110.862741x0. That is the one we have. Both have the full width door, and all four are 70-series models.

There were also 1983 and 1985 models, 110.863741x0 and 110.865741x0. The 83 and 85 models have the new door opening. I am not sure what the difference is between the 81 and 82 models, though the 81 may not have the lint alert whistle that the 82 does.

The element is part number 4391960. Most any parts store or outlet should have it. I have a 1982 Gold matching washer that would make a nice mate to this dryer.

Sears Kenmore Clothes Dryer

The dryer that’s pictured is a 1980’s 70 Series. Good mid priced dryer (electric or natural gas), but not featured enough to be an 80 Series, 90 Series, or a Lady Kenmore.

But nicely featured for a mid priced dryer.

With the match all console of the rest of the line of laundry appliances of the period, it would match up nicely with any of the washer of the period (all but the Lady Kenmore).

I’d still snap that one up and look for a 60-90 Series Washer.

Pretty much all Whirlpool 29” dryers made after 1966 all have interchangeable parts since they all take the same rollers, drum belt, thermostats, and a few other parts. Though there are a few different style of heating elements since the the standard capacity 29” dryers have the element that slides out of the heating element plenum and the newer style have the heating element that separates from part of the plenum if that makes sense.

Wow, nice to see you posting Gordon! I still remember the serial # of my old Kenmore dryer that has been gone for 8 years. 110.87181100.

Yes, there is a lot of parts interchangeability on these great dryers. There’s also a lot of different parts. There’s seven different heating elements that are not interchangeable with each other. There’s a lot of slight variations that are interchangeable in some cases.

There are 4 Different Dr. belts used most are interchangeable, but one is not interchangeable

Great to see a post from you Gordon . I hope you’re doing well. Check in sometime

John.

Super nice dryer.  I hope it works good for you.

Have you seen the inside yet?

That one is probably #2 here from 1982 which I believe was the last year for the squared full-width door AND the first year for the newer script style.
