Hi, as I'm sure you know I own a Candy aquamatic 3 thet was brought to replace a hotpoint twin tub. It was given to me when my great grandmother died in 2005. I have taken care of it and wanted to know some more about it.

I know that it takes a 3kg load, spins at 550rpm. What I whould like to know is when it was made, how long it was made for, and any other information would be great

Many thanks,Christopher

Hi Chris,

guess this baby was made in late eighties - early nineties.

IMHO Aquamatics are the few reliable washers Candy has ever made. No wonder its contemporary standard size Candy washers now are mostly in the curb, while aquamatics still wash like workhorses

The "E" (economy) key dumbs down water temperature in boilwash cycles (1,2,3). Water will be heated just up to 60°C instead of 95°C. When I used it in a rental I ran whites on 3 + E, colour fast on 4 (again @ 60°C, but half the time) and colour non fast on 5/40°C

Despite the fact its drum actually has a small size, this washer is a nice performer, rinses well and does not wrinke clothes at all, to the point I have never used the permapress cycles (8-9-10).

The previous model had a matching dryer (Heliomatic). I have never seen one of these dryers in reality, but just in this YouTube vid:

Hi Chris.

Welcome to the club and liking the wee Aquamatic 3! Very cute machines and always wanted one as a kid to go alongside my own Creda 275 Compact.

I had to wait another 25 years though, before getting my own Aquamatic.
Mine is a little older than yours though - I think its your machines Grandad, judging Aquamatic 3, Aquamatic 2 to Aquamatic 1.

Picked it up last Novemeber, its a Candy Aquamatic1....

Below a Candy Aquamatic 1 sits alongside its matching dryer in the form of the Heliomatic 1.

The Aquamatic 1 was introduced in 1973 and ran through to the end of the 70's, being replaced by the Candy Aquamatic 2...

Here an Aquamatic 1 sits underneath a Heliomatic 2. The picture is dated 1980, so is right at the end of the Aquamatic 1's production run ...

Only have a line drawing of the Aquamatic 2 and its not of my computer, so I cant post it.

I have an inkling that when the Aquamatic 2 ceased production, it took the Heliomatic 2 along with it, which was never replaced.

Unsure of dates, but mid 80s sounds right for the introduction of the Aqumatic 3, initially in the slate grey fascia guise, with the white fascia coming in later...

and finally Chris...

if my machine is your machines Grandad, then here is your machines Great Grandad in the form of the 1968/69 Candy Misura.

I think this was Candy's first Compact and a vid of one is on youtube...

Hiya Darren.

Methinks you mean that the Indesit Moon is a little Candy Aqumaticky 1! lol :-)

sure is! Powder is added to the door and then it fills front through the door, as well as at the back too.
Hope to be able to get some vids of it action this spring and summer.

It was tested last year and seems to do the biz, but it was a case of quick check and into store - much like with everything else.

Certainly, these machines are painfully cute.

Paul

Lol yes indeed the moon is aquamaticesque even! Does it prohibite ur view very much? See this is what indesit should have done a clear door with a little bit of view would have been better than none at all.

With my Aqua1 and Chris' Aqua3, the question is 'where are all the Aqua2's?'.

Fingers crossed there are still one or two out there.

Congrats again Chris on your Aquamatic3 and hope the info is of use, though treat the dates with a pinch of salt as Candy is definitely not a strong point with me.

Paul

Hi Darren.

The powder chute arrangement does make get in the way a bit and when all gunked up, as they surely became, would hinder even more...

Clean door with chute attached - not too bad a view I suppose - just distorts things a bit.
Roll on the next few months and maybe we will find out.
