Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Two things came to mind when I watched this.

1) That is probably the ugliest car featured in a series in the entire history of Television.  Or maybe it's a Fred Gwynne thing.  The Munsters' car was pretty damned hideous.

2) I'm trying to imagine the expressions on the faces of the male singers as they sang the theme song.

As a kid, I enjoyed this series.  It was stupid enough to appeal to me then.  I don't think I could sit through it now.  I didn't realize that the opening sequence was different every week.  Seems kind of unusual to me.

There were other shows I recall doing the same thing with sponsor tags. "Petticoat Junction" and The Dick Van Dyke Show", along with a short lived comedy on NBC in which Imogene Coca played a maid. The show was named "Grindl".

I distinctly remember a commercial for Tide (which I wish I could find) that showed on "Grindl". It beared a resemblance to the opening of the Sherman and Mr. Peabody segments on "Rocky and Bullwinkle". The jingle was:

Tide gets clothes cleaner
'Cause Tide makes water softer
If you want your clothes cleaner
You better use Tide.

This came out back in '63. I can't believe I've remembered it after all these years.
