Seeing the card table cloth of Heathers brought back memories of growing up in the 50's and 60' for me with all the card parties that were held. My mother, aunts and grandmothers always had bridge parties during the winter months. My folks had a large group of friends that got together once a month for card parties there were 12 couples and they each had a month that they hosted. They mostly played hearts but sometimes canasta or dominios. What fun we kids had while the adults were playing and wow the food.

With us it has always been another couple to play cards or games with just not like it used to be.

When I was little (70's), my parents had several groups of friends that they would get together with regularly and play games, not just cards.

Nowadays, we have a couple sets of friends that come over but we tend to play Wii, while sending the kids to play outside. :)

We always have good food, lots of dips and chips or veggies!

My mom was quite a hostess and I remember some card parties but I think they stopped in the early 60's after she started working part time.

I'm not much for playing cards and my partner hates it. I remember in the dorms at college we'd play Hearts, Spades, and Bridge. I'm not a Bridge person. Spades is my limit because I'm lousy at keeping track of things.

Mah Jongg

I play Mah Jongg. When I am in Virginia I play with my mother/grandmother's group. I am looking for a group here in Cincinnati. It's a nice distraction from regular life with good food, pleasant company, and an opportunity to be social in a peaceful, quiet setting.

My parents had a monthly card party in the late 90's up until about 4 years ago with 3 other couples my mother used to work with at J.C.Penney collection department in the 1980's.

Now I have card parties with a group of people I used to work with, we usually fix things like funnel cakes, or waffles with icecream, or I will make home made pretzels, or chicken quesidillas, or my favorite cheese fondue. and we eat and play cards or yathzee or boggle until 4 am. usually monthly or bi monthly, but we used to play weekly

A gang of us get together around here about once a month and still play canasta...kinda like an evening out...different house each time and everyone brings a covered dish...a nice time to relax, play catchup, and try a new desert...

In the 60s & 70s, my parents belonged to a group of about 6 to 10 couples who met I think one saturday evening a month at the various houses and played bridge & duplicate bridge. And when it was at our house, I had to go to the back bedroom (to get away from the smoke & noise during eating, then smoke during playing) and watch tv. Full meals were served here. Afterwards, I was the one who cleaned up the kitchen. My mom woke up to all the dishes done and put away. She wass the envey of everyone. Mom also had a couple of groups of lady friends who would meet for bridge at the various houses. WAs usually one, two tables at max. Pretty much all the stuff was done with by the time I got home from school unless the dishwasher wasn't full enough to run by then.

My parents also did card parties with other couples. They played a game called "set back". I used to know how to play but can't remember. Does anyone know this game and how to play?
