That's Nice Martin.

Carrier did make Great A/Cs back in the day when quality and pride were part of manufacturing.

Never heard of them making freezers. Now I'm wondering if they did Evaporators and Condensers for Commercial Walk in coolers.

Re Carrier AC

They made a window unit in the early 50s with a semi hermetic compressor that used Freon 500...A REAL AC that blew ICE cold air!

Hans,

I am 60 years old I remember when I was around 7-8 years old there were many window units running from the 50s. We had a "1/2 ton" Fedders. Gray with the Weather Wheel. You could refrigerate a room full of Beef when that machine was running.

My Dad in his restaurant had a Console Carrier Freestanding in his Bar. (When you were proud to have on your signage "AIR CONDITIONED" outside. It had a Water Tower Cooling Unit on the roof and that unit kept your nipples hard on the hottest days.

What a Beast that was.

Wow I have never seen any home refrigerators or freezers made by Carrier. If I do run across one near me I bet it tries to follow me home. Been selling their heating and AC products for about a 1/4 of a century and never saw theses before.

Gill, that is almost the exact (1949) Westinghouse fridge I grew up with.  Ours was a model D9-49.  The "acrylic" part of the handle broke after 20+ years of use, then the entire handle nearly pulled off after it became a garage fridge.

I wonder if that's due it it having been in everyday use long after most families had upgraded to frost free, and the door having been opened many thousands more times than similar models that are still out there today.

That is my sons 50 Westinghouse, first antique frig we brought home. The entire bottom is rusted off of the cabinet but a bad control was the only thing keeping it from cooling.
