I have a few ? Everyone is always talking about A106, A806. A206 and so on. Was the A407 an oldball or What? Also what dryer would go with it for a matcthing pair. A407 is the washer my mom had but she wouldn't own a dryer so we didn't have one.

I've wanted to know this, as well...our A407 has got a gold-colored control panel instead of the turquoise, and no pilot light, of course.
They're never mentioned in the brochures that are always posted...everything is always an "x06" or "x08"
That's one of the reasons I've called it the "red-headed step-child" of the Maytag washer line!

Didn't the gold panel simply come later in time for all models?
A406, and A407 were a bit odd. Large capacity, long soak cycle. Don't see a lot of 'em.
Matching dryer would be a 206, 207, or maybe a 606.

Here's our A407, "Maude"...she's not a pretty or pristine as our DE606, but she's a trouper. The "chrome" plastic is eaten away in spots, and somebody in her long past (she was made in 1978) tried to fill in the gold paint on there with model paint...ack!

Nice washer. My neighbors had the exact one in the picture up top. They had the matching dryer too, although that may have been a different series. What is interesting about this washer is that it looks more feature oriented than it actually is. The number of speed selector buttons make it look like it has a three speed motor, whereas the motor is only one speed, and the different selections altar the progression of the regular cycle. I was used to the dial setup of the 06 series growing up, so I was confused by the dial configuration of the A407 when I first saw it. I couldn't understand why there were two soak settings, but eventually I realized one was timed and the other was probably not. I tried to run my neighbor's just to hear the motor, but the dial was sticking, and I decided not to push my luck. That is one great washer, and I wish you many happy washloads.
