Of course the first link would be to an all-new LG dishwasher. I so loved the LG I had before the GE. The LG models that followed the one I had were not rated as high by Consumer Reports so I looked to a brand I'd never owned.

Will be interesting to see how the next-gen LG does in testing.

I heard one of the breakthroughs at CES was a refrigerator, where you can open the door with your foot! Imagine that, no one had ever thought of that before!

I love it! Two of the arms actually tilt to hit hard-to-get-to areas of the tub. Take that, Samsung Waterwall!

Watched LG and Samsung's boxes of gimmicks and just stared at the screen, but got super excited about Whirlpool's fridge because it had features that addressed issues I actually hate about most refrigerators. I'll take practical functionality over flashy perks that will be forgotten in a year any day.

One useful "connected" feature of the Samsung refrigerator is the internal cameras. I'd love to be at the grocery store and be able to check to see what's in the fridge.

I find the grocery list/shopping features to be of little use at this time. The HyVee grocery store I shop at does not accept purchase prompts from refrigerators. Also, my grocery list generally has many items not from the refrigerator/freezer sections of the store. I'd still have to shop for my own dry and canned goods. For that matter, I enjoy grocery shopping. I like to look through the produce section, for instance, to pick exactly what I want. Ditto the meat counter.

I can see where such features will be more useful when grocery stores can provide the services made possible by a refrigerator's technology...but that time isn't now; at least not in rural Minnesota. The ability to shop from your refrigerator would be great for the disabled or elderly.

The "pantry shelving" in the new Whirlpool looks great. There's so much flexibility---always a plus in a refrigerator---or any appliance, for that matter.

Since I shop ever two weeks, I end up having to go up & down just about every aisle.  I do make my own list and add to it as time goes on between trips to the store.

I pass the grocery store every day on the way to/from work, so tend to stop in twice a week: Once on Thursday to pick up most items/specials and again on Saturday to pick up big/heavy items like cat litter, cases of water, water softener pellets, ice, and more items that were on a super special. The store usually puts a purchase limit of 1 or 2 on those items, so I can pick them up again on the second trip.

If the grocery store wasn't on my route, I'd definitely shop less frequently, as you do, Bob.

You are an evil, evil man, Alex! I'll wait 'til Consumer Reports tests it, as I'm sure the price for the Signature line will be through the roof. In the meantime...if one of my local friends needs a dishwasher, the GE would be an excellent candidate for adoption, LOL.

For some reason, I can only get the mobile version of LG's Signature website. It does sound like the dishwasher uses steam during the final rinse also: "Pure water particles of steam help reduce watermarks and improves drying significantly."

The look of the machine seems, ahem, inspired by Bosch (cutlery tray, dispenser), Kitchen Aid (plastic ring around the baskets) and GE (door latch).

No digital countdown display

  I've become extremely used to knowing how much longer very quickly!!

There is a countdown on the top of the door. Its technology was... inspired by Samsung, as it uses the same microholes lasered into the stainless finish with an LCDs behind it like the WaterWall dishwashers have.

Oh my, the gimmicks....they're everywhere!
WHAT on earth is with LG's silly 'direct drive' crowing on their dishwashers?
That's really silly.
Only the old belt drive Maytags were, well, not direct drive.
EVERY other dishwasher I know of has direct drive.
They're slandering other brands for a "defect" they don't even have!!!!

The TurboSteam in the rinse though, does make some sense.
But what about hard water? Do they have built-in softeners for that true steam?
