The Thermodome, whick was lowered over a cook pot sitting on the burner, was the early version of the insulated deep well that Chambers dubbed the Thermowell on later models. The domes and the wells were basically small ovens: they were insulated just like the big ovens and you could "cook with the gas off" like the big ovens. They were used most often for soups, sides, oatmeal, and some baking.
