Hey everyone, thought you all might get a kick out of this slick black KitchenAid from 1995 IIRC. Here's the quick backstory.

First of all, I knew zero about washers/dryers up until last year, when our Norgetag (MAV/Herrin) started making what sounded like a bearing noise. It had already been squeaking as it agitated (tub brake going out, I was told), so after looking things up and seeing how frustratingly $difficult$ those Norgetags were to fix, I decided to start looking for a replacement machine. On the plus side, we got around 12 trouble-free years out of that "Maytag," believe it or not.

I wanted a machine that was reliable, had a long service life, and was easy to repair when it broke. I was told to be on the lookout for direct drives. After browsing Craigslist for months, I came across this machine with its matching dryer for $200. It was already in good shape, but definitely needed a cleaning.

Anyway, not sure how these links are going to show up on this forum, but here they are. This machine is a beast! It's so solid and heavy duty that I call it the Mercedes W140 of washers.

Thanks for all the knowledge you geeks have contributed. I've definitely learned a lot lurking here (and have started to get the bug for vintage washers myself).

Nice machine in a distinctive color!

It's 1994 model-year per the first B in the model number.  The serial number CF16 indicates manufacture in 1996 16th week (Apr 15 to 19).

My parents had a KAWE670BWH0, serial of 1994 49th week (Dec 5 to 9).  And matching dryer.

Be interesting to determine what may be the feature differences (if any) between 670 and 679.  670 console is the same regards to features/settings.

Thanks everyone. I know this forum has seen it all, so it's cool that I can post something new and slightly different. I wonder how many black ones are extant?

Appnut, I did snag the dryer. You can see it in photo #10. Why do you say it's the best dryer out there? It's being stored until this white Maytag breaks.

DADoES I'd be interested in finding out the differences between these model numbers as well. Thanks for the date correction. That's a very clean set you have there.

KA 29" Dryer

Hi Jerry, glad you upgraded to this very good washer, you should differently service the matching KA dryer and put it into service, like the KA washer you will be impressed how much better a WP built dryer is compared to the MT machine.

Your MT dryer could either be a Norge design or a 27" Real MT which is quite a bit better than the Norge design, but the KA is still much better machine, for one it has a bigger diameter drum and large things dry better with less wrinkles, and the KA has much less plastic in its construction.

Jerry,

The pics are from 2001.  The parents no longer have that set.  The washer's timer broke ~8 yrs ago.  I had a Kenmore 90 ready to go so swapped it in.  The KA also had rusting around the bleach cup, lid, and loading port (bits once in a while falling into the basket).

They had the dryer until late 2018 when I swapped-in another set.  Dryer was still good, it was sold to their yard guy.
