Hey everyone, thought you all might get a kick out of this slick black KitchenAid from 1995 IIRC. Here's the quick backstory.
First of all, I knew zero about washers/dryers up until last year, when our Norgetag (MAV/Herrin) started making what sounded like a bearing noise. It had already been squeaking as it agitated (tub brake going out, I was told), so after looking things up and seeing how frustratingly $difficult$ those Norgetags were to fix, I decided to start looking for a replacement machine. On the plus side, we got around 12 trouble-free years out of that "Maytag," believe it or not.
I wanted a machine that was reliable, had a long service life, and was easy to repair when it broke. I was told to be on the lookout for direct drives. After browsing Craigslist for months, I came across this machine with its matching dryer for $200. It was already in good shape, but definitely needed a cleaning.
Anyway, not sure how these links are going to show up on this forum, but here they are. This machine is a beast! It's so solid and heavy duty that I call it the Mercedes W140 of washers.
Thanks for all the knowledge you geeks have contributed. I've definitely learned a lot lurking here (and have started to get the bug for vintage washers myself).
