If I recall correctly, GE used to make a colour similar to Almond in the late 1950s. It was light tan or very light cocoa, and called Buckskin, if memory serves. I seem to recall shaded edges, too, like the later Coppertone, Avocado, and Harvest colours.

Am I right? And was this called Buckskin? I think GE made a couple of colours no one else did, Cadet Blue for one.

Thanks for any info!

the GE color was called WOODTONE BROWN

I think Whirlpool offered a similar color in the mid to late 1960's by that name. PAT COFFEY

Thanks Pat

What a comprehensive listing of appliance colours you have there at that link!

It still leaves me wondering, though, because I have seen, with my own eyes, a much lighter GE refrigerator than the Woodtone Brown shade. I think it was closer to Whirlpool's Doeskin, and I'm wondering if the passing of years was what made me think there was a GE colour called Buckskin- you know how memory plays tricks sometimes, LOL.

So, I'm now wondering if GE offered Doeskin for a season or two. The reefer I saw was in a friend's house in the 1960's; it was one of the late-1950s bottom-freezer models with turnaround shelves. It was also TOL, with the brushed or textured aluminium panel on the freezer drawer (we had the next model down in our own house, without the bright panel on the freezer). So, this would not have been a repaint to Almond done at a later date- this would have been a factory colour.

Veeeerrrrry Inter-esting!

Dane.. what link are you talking about???

Are you talking about that list I made of colored appliances through the years??????? PAT

that beautiful color was called "Sapphire". It was around in 1968-1970. This color really worked great with the dark stained cabinetry that was in fashion at the time. Especially in a Colonial themed decor.

A couple of years ago, for a brief time, an unshaded similar version of this color known as "Lake" blue was reintroduced with the KitchenAid brand. It was a special order through Sears.

GE colors

GE colors in the late fifties were nothing short of fabulous!
I'd kill for a vintage washing machine in Cadet Blue!

Check out this ad! Dan Draper and Jim Campbell must have had a few too many martinis when they printed the copy for this one!

Actually it's Donald Draper and Pete Campbell, with all the drinking they do on that show they probably printed this ad (Peggy didn't see it) and then wrestled in Roger Sterling's office in their underwear!
