Yay! I put up my tree tonight! A bright shiny aluminum one!
It's actually a reproduction aluminum tree that's plastique! I do have two real aluminum trees, but found this on clearance last year... and had to have it! I think it's uncanny how much it looks like a "genuine" aluminum tree. You wouldn't know unless you actually touch it.

Also did a little thing on the mantle with some lights and garland.

Beautiful Tree...

But just as a final touch, I think that tree needs some pretty flashing lights ***ducks*** ***runs***

You must have a mellow cat! I'd be dripping in blood if I made that attempt with either one of my cats.

Fred, what a pretty tree, I have to agree with Robert though, some pretty little lights would look so neat.LOL I have never seen a plastic tree like that before.

Aluminum trees...

Do they have metal needles? Must be even more awkward to decorate than a real one. Ouch!

I have never seen those in the Netherlands. Probably too dangerous.

mielabor Hello
Back when these trees came out in the early 60's they had aluminum needles. You were told in the instructions NO ELECTRICAL LIGHTS ON TREE! You can imagine the shocks one would get if the insulation was cracked or missing on the lights. The newer ones as seen here are made of plastic. Don't know for sure about lights on these, but the way of lighting them was as you can see in the picture to the double power, there is a very bright light with a 4 color wheel that revolves changing the color of the total tree every few seconds. Yellow, green, red and blue. I believe that they used a 100+ watt bulb. I do like their retro look though.

How did those aluminum needles feel? Were they stiff or flexible. As far as I know aluminum is not very springy like steel so I imagined that the needles had to be stiff in order to preserve the appearance of the tree.

Beautiful Tree

I love your tree. When I was in high school my accounting teacher put up an aluminum tree with satin covered ornaments and a color wheel light. It was a pretty tree.

Aluminum Needles

Were flexible, not really sharp. You couldn't put a lot of ornaments on the branches or they would bend. And true, no elctrical wiring of any kind. You could add tinsel to make it look "fuller". The idea was to resemble an ice-coated tree.

Thanks for the info about the aluminum trees. As said before, I have never seen such a tree. These were probably made in a time when artificial trees were regarded here as inferior to the real thing and while suitable for shop displays etc. certainly not for use in the home. When I was at school we even had trees with real candles in each classroom and yes, they were lit! I can't imagine that such a thing is possible nowadays.

No live trees in commercial establishments...

Really? Even today, live trees are more common than artificial trees in offices etc. I must say that I have never seen an artificial tree in the places where I have worked until now. As it happens a real tree has just been placed today in the entrance hall of our office building. It's not decorated yet.
