Louis, does the drum wobble about?? or is it very tight??,

Mickey, I took the pics after we switched it on and we where mesmorised by the water currents!! and of course I thought theres at least one person I know will see the beauty!!!...Lol The vortex is so strong you can almost stick your hand in it!!! For a small machine it has a great action!!

Allen, When you do, let us know, you can have a guide to washday over here!!

Rob, look forward to that!!

Supermatics

Morning Keith

The two, (well three) machines are all 1400`s the first model, first one is Johns, that needed a respray and usual hoses replaced etc...then Neil re-sprayed it and after putting it all together we found the motor break windings where sticking, i.e. microswitches duff, so a simple £2 job from Maplins sorted it, BUT, its the accessibility of the mounting bracket stuck through the bottom side of the spin can, that was one thing they didnt think through for engineers out on the road...

The second one was an ebay find in Telford and thats being done up for Neil etc...., again needs microswitches etc...my one is still awaiting a re-spray & hoses etc...so thats next...

Hears a few pics, will do a renovation thread shortly!!

Hey Mike,

They look great so far, and a nice niffty find on ebay !! I never did know what colour the metal was mean't to be sprayed on the spin lid surround, it looks like a dark blue.

The 1400's were wonderful machines, i have the Twin Six, which is awaiting some attention but am on the hunt for a 1420 to complete the set, although i think this is going to be hardest to find, as the clutch on the spinner was a powder driven and were always busting, the hunt continues !!

Keep up the good work, the machines certainly look fantastic !!

Hi Mike,

! had a good time that Monday learning about John's Hoover collection. I can't believe I missed that fabulous Hoover A3060 Electronic 1100.

I will have to make it a full weekend next time so I don't miss anything! Hehe

Thanks

Rob

hotpoint 95622

I whish I never went on holiday.
Nice to see all had a nice weekend and the weather looked great too.

Looks like everyone had a lovely time

All those machines and retro detergents, love it!

I think I'd just faint being surrounded by all those Hoovers.

That Servis wringer is amazing, I think that must be like my Nana had, she say's she had a little Servis wringer washer. :)

I'd love to see an old 1100 Hoover in the flesh, was outbid on an A3060 at the last minute last year that was near me, gutted :(

Supermatic 1400

Hi keith

yes two supermatics, as mike says the micro switches had burnt out on the one, these would be easy to replace back in the day, but the bolt that they pivot on had seized, so instead of the switch bracket rocking about the pivot, these whole assembly was turning ie was wearing a hole in the fibreglass tub, this has now been removed and the part rebuit on a metal plate that can be epoxyied inplace on the next visit, then when the spin pump is freed up it should be ready to reassemble. That will deserve a thread by it self, it's had so many issues to be delt with lol.

The second machine, the one pictured has a problem with the spin brake sticking on, I guess it's similar to that used on the phillips twin tubs, in that it's the thrust of the motor that releases the brake and the back thrust of the spinner to engage the brake once the power is cut. All this is within the direct drive motor, ie under the spin can. the big question being how to get to this brake, as Mike said, the spinner is mounted on the motor shaft and is seized.

So any Ideas of how to access this brake would be received with great interest.

Keith,

I am very keen to see the English Electric Liberators as and when you get things sorted out, my grandparents had the washing machine untill 1986, and I would love to experience one in action again. Thankfully I was aware enough to keep the instruction books, though I wish of course I'd had the gumption to get my parents to let me hang onto it. And the real niggle is that it hadn't long had a new door boot, it's main fault was that the spin solinoid had come loose so for the last year it made the most horrendous 50hz buzzing noise and hardly got up any speed on the spin. Even then I knew what it was but was't aloud to stay when grandpa had the back of it, some things you just can't forgive your parents for lol.

Look forward to meeting up with you one day

Mathew

Lovely pics!

Good to see pictures of meets, always good to see new faces and new machines!

Love the baby Servis, could almost pass as a toy! That impeller looks terrifying though, is it possible it could out-tangle a Hoover, I wonder!

Bob and Neil are lucky guys, it's great to see a T5004 again, even if it has misbehaved! I can sympathise, have done a couple of washes in my HM that needed the back removed midway through, oh well, they're like driving a classic car, aren't they? Does the interlock issue stop the lid being raised, I remember my auntie jemmying the lid of her interlocked machine open with a knife... And as for the Electronic 1100, it looks to be in incredible condition.

Hope all the 1400s get sorted in the end, it's a gorgeous model. If you squint at the first photo of the thread, it could almost pass as a production line shot, I reckon! Looking forward to hearing about progress made on them.

Hi Mathew,

Those micro switches on the 1400's are a nightmare and heard that this was the main reason for laods of them being chucked away..I will have a look in some service manuals as i am not sure of the set-up, ie postioning of the micro switch that you are mentioning..all the Supermatic's i have had, have had the switch postioned under the spinner platform, not far from the pump, and it is bolt on, so no movement of the switch itself.

The brake thingie could be a bit more difficult, apparently to remove the spin can, you need a special tool..I have never had to get to the motor, although saying that i did have a go when my spinner was just "humming" but i was later told that this was the relay that had gone. I have a friend who worked for Hotpoint for many years and he maybe able to shead some light on the spin problem.

With reference to the English Electric Liberator's, these are quite funky, although i am more a single & twin tub guy..not into front loading washers at all..LOL. The set i have came from a Lady Dashwood in London, the tumble dryer is fine, but the washer needs some attention to the pump. I think it only spins at about 600rpm..? I will take some more pics when i get over to the other garage, they do look really good when they are in the stacking position, but they weigh a ton.

Anyway, could waffle on for ages, hopefully get to meet you and the other Northern gang soon..will let you know on the 1400.
Cheers

Keith

Mike i missed your last thread which was awesome !
But wow seems like you guys had the best time, wish i had more closer guys to hang out with and get some machines going and learning.

The hoover 1100 basket the light blue tumblers are curved, so going in the right lifts clothes higher and going reverse left is a smoother or less of a higher drop ?
Does the hoover stay's stationary and heat and does half turns until i reaches the selected temp and then goes into a higher rpm drum rotation to wash the load ?
Can you here the coils as it heats.. ? One of the best sounds to here in a Euro washer i think.

The Galaxy and spaceship pics are the best and thank you for the story and the beautiful machines.
