Supermatic 1400
Hi keith
yes two supermatics, as mike says the micro switches had burnt out on the one, these would be easy to replace back in the day, but the bolt that they pivot on had seized, so instead of the switch bracket rocking about the pivot, these whole assembly was turning ie was wearing a hole in the fibreglass tub, this has now been removed and the part rebuit on a metal plate that can be epoxyied inplace on the next visit, then when the spin pump is freed up it should be ready to reassemble. That will deserve a thread by it self, it's had so many issues to be delt with lol.
The second machine, the one pictured has a problem with the spin brake sticking on, I guess it's similar to that used on the phillips twin tubs, in that it's the thrust of the motor that releases the brake and the back thrust of the spinner to engage the brake once the power is cut. All this is within the direct drive motor, ie under the spin can. the big question being how to get to this brake, as Mike said, the spinner is mounted on the motor shaft and is seized.
So any Ideas of how to access this brake would be received with great interest.
Keith,
I am very keen to see the English Electric Liberators as and when you get things sorted out, my grandparents had the washing machine untill 1986, and I would love to experience one in action again. Thankfully I was aware enough to keep the instruction books, though I wish of course I'd had the gumption to get my parents to let me hang onto it. And the real niggle is that it hadn't long had a new door boot, it's main fault was that the spin solinoid had come loose so for the last year it made the most horrendous 50hz buzzing noise and hardly got up any speed on the spin. Even then I knew what it was but was't aloud to stay when grandpa had the back of it, some things you just can't forgive your parents for lol.
Look forward to meeting up with you one day
Mathew
