Its been a while since we had a UK appliance thread on here, any other UK members feel like posting to it please feel free to do so.

How about kicking one off with a classic Cannon 1960s gas cooker in EXCELLENT CLEAN looking condition. I have been told these were built like tanks

Tricity Hair dryer

An identical model was sold by Hoover and as such is comparatively common, but I have never seen it branded as Tricity before - I was not even aware that Tricity ventured into this sort of thing - I have always associated them with cookers, fridges & freezers. As you can see from the picture just the thing to get your tresses in perfect condition before placing the tiara on your head.

The plug on it would not have been standard issue and actually I am quite surprised it even worked being plugged into a light socket

Hygena Contour

Well here's a blast from the mid 1970s - a Hygena Contour kitchen. This was pretty much the last gasp for Hygena which, for about 25 years, had been one of the major top end kitchen suppliers. It was not long after this they went bust and the name was bought up by MFI (itself now gone) to be put on their own manufactured kitchens which were not a fraction of the quality of these.

They really were rather nice, I am not mad about the harvest gold but I have very fond memories of a dark (not quite navy) blue.

But at £875 BIN I think I will be popping out Ikea instead

Bit of a mixture now

And the price is a lot more acceptable.

The sink unit is from the 1950s, the other cupboards are much more late 1960s or, given the colour, 1970s. The sink top ha also been replaced, originally the sink and drainer (probably double drainer) would have covered the whole of the unit below. Funny thing is that, given worktop is not that expensive they did not do all of the kitchen and also, having gone to the trouble of replacing the sink, they did not update the unit beneath it.

Reply #7-#8 - sinks with drainboard

Reply #7 has double drainboards- look deceptively larger from the front-side views vs. that top view.

After a member mentioned Elkay brand ss sinks, with drainboard(s) ...I've noticed it's easier to find ss sinks without drainboards(single or double) than it is to find with. And you don't often see them in non-commercial kitchens, but it works if you have room in your kitchen.

I found a non-ribbed drainboard, but I like those ribbed drainboards better. Thanks for posting all these.

Tricity President mid 1960s

One of the earlier examples of this very popular, for its time TOL cooker, shame its missing the handle to the grill/second oven.

I think it may have been the first double oven cooker of this type i.e. with grill/oven below hob. The Creda shown above is their "answer" to the President, but it take them around 10 years to do so.

The small grill on the bottom, under the oven, is a fan heater.

And now, back to the early 1990s or possibly 1980s

In North London these are all from the same seller - the same seller who cannot read as the "Hoover" tumble dryer is actually a Philips - see its not just in the US this happens

By the way, the tumble dryer is identical to the first dryer I ever bought back in 1980. Its an excellent dryer, although not reversing, I use the one have occasionally and it produces very good results
