Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Now here is something you dont often see

Although massively popular in North America gas powered dryers are a rarity here - natural gas here is cheaper than electricity but I suppose that the perceived difficulty with these such as laying in a gas line and venting have put people off, there just is not the demand. Of course the great flexibility of electric condenser dryers make them very popular in smaller British homes where it is literally plug and play in any room that suits you and no bulky vent hoses to bugger around with either.

Anyway, branded Parkinson Cowan (a Thorn gas brand) its clearly made by White Knight although its Philips ancestry can also be seen. I wonder did it always have that cream knob or is it a replacement

White Knight actually makes gas dryer from awhile, they're less a rarity in the UK than they're in the rest of Europe...funny because as you say UK is one of the "luckiest" countries when it comes about electricity costs vs the gas...
UK perhaps is the first country in the EU manufacturing gas dryers for home use, there was Miele also but they were semi-professional models IIRC, they costed crazy for what they were and at least here they never showed up in a considerable number.
Here in Italy electricity costs crazy and gas dryers are the only cost effective way to dry clothes automatically...not a case most italians just hang laundry and dryers are not a common thing because of electricty costs.
Dealers of gas dryers over here sell white knight machines also along with american models, but american models goes for the most, they cost much but also are more for your money compared to the white knight.
I had an electric white knight dryer for a while...and it was a nice little dryer, I just disliked the door grille that would collect lint and do a mess on the floor as you opened the machine.
