Classic washers with metered fill

Hello Friends,
I seem to remember reading here that there were TOL washers from Frigidaire and Speed Queen(solid tub)that had metered fill instead of timed.How would this work?On another topic,and I hope this is OK for this forum,I just saved $$$ shipping a Magnavox Imperial console stereo with a company called Uship.You post what you need moved,and truckers coming your way that have extra room in their trailers bring it to you.You can put in what you are willing to pay and wait for someone to accept your price.I saved half using it.Maybe this could allow someone to get a machine they really want when the shipping cost might be the difference.

I believe these units had a separate chamber for the water level (early 80's for SQ). While the inner tub is filling, the chamber was filling to.

resetting water levels

Does anyone know if it's possible to re-adjust a water level?

The water level selectors are pre set at the factories.If you take off the rear of the control panel or the top off a front loading model,the water level selector has a screw usualy tip painted in red or yellow.If you turn it counter clockwise 1/4 turn,it will increase the water level about 3 inches.

What about the top-loader washer? Is it turn right to increase and turn left to decrease the water level for these?

It can be done

One time I readjusted the fill control on a late 1980's GE Filter-flo that I wanted to jury-rig a mini-basket. The control, as it was, had 4 fill settings: ex-large, large, medium and small. As usual with a GE filter flo, the practical water level difference between those settings was a mere inch or two. To make the change, I opened the control panel and removed the armature on the back of the water level control knob that was made out of either graphite or some brittle plastic. The part that interacted with the pressure diaphragm control had a piece on it that looked like a four leaf clover with graduated indentation between the "leaves". With a sharp pen knife, I shaved down the deepest indentation until it allowed the button on the pressure control to be practically all the way out. This gave me an extra low water level on the "small" setting that was, in fact, the best mini-basket water level I've ever seen. This was the machine:
