I have just noticed on e-bay.com.au a couple of classic washers
1.Wilkins Servis wringer from the 1960's
2.A very rare ''Stampco''? wringer being used as a plant stand,
(rare is right I have never heard of Stampco).
3.Hoovermatic Twin Tub,hhhhmmm the owner of this is near where I live so I am now salivating at the thought.

Stampco were made at Clayton, a suburb of Melbourne. The company was Stamp and Company, there was a first initial but I don't remember it. I think they were only sold in Melbourne and surrounds. The company survived till some time in the 1990s, I'm not sure when they stopped making wringer washers but it was very late. When I was a teenager (some time around 1980) my friend's mother bought a new Stampco wringer washer. She was very "into" the old fashioned way of doing things, and swore that an automatic couldn't possibly wash as well as her Stampco. It replaced another Stampco that was more than 20 years old, they were identical. The model was Stampco Monocontrol, so named because there was only one control, a lever which you turned one way to engage wash, another to wring and in the middle to pump or something like that. Not even a clockwork timer.

Stampco also made an automatic for a while but I have never seen one.

They are very sturdy machines and were quite popular around Melbourne. I still see wringers quite regularly and they are generally Stampco or Simpson, with the occasional Wilkins Servis or Westinghouse.
