o
so now I am officially in hock for 360 payments (or until I die, whichever comes first)

Closing took an hour and half. I signed so much crap I think I gave birth...........to a real estate agent!

Started moving some things today. Measured for the umteenth time the space in the laundry area for the Speed Queens. I have 6 foot side to side o they WILL fit.

Knocked out the drain plug for the washer.

Fiddled with the stove. Smooth top. Heats quickly I found out. Very quickly. Oven works sans the inside bulb. Stinks a tad due to newness.

Ran the BOL contractor grade Frig dishwasher. That mother is NOISY. I mean like jackhammer noisy. Will be running it at night for sure lest it interrupts my Lawrence Welk reruns!

Studied up on the Goodman furnace. Indirect venting setup. Screwy and probably expensive Aprilaire accordion type filter. Figured out how to remove it. Learned the T-stat. Outdoor unit is also Goodman, contractor grade. At least it was run with R410A.

Turned up the Bradford White WH a bit. As from factory, it was barely lukewarm and I like to see red skin when I shower.

Installed 2 made in Vietnam cheap blinds in the garage.

Installed the effing mailbox. Don't ever buy those so called adjust to fit brackets. They suck. Once you tighten the cheap chinese screws, ya NEVER will get them apart.

Spoke to neighbor to be who happens to be....a contractor! Likes firearms too. Wasn't too up to snuff on Speed Queen but he said he'd take a look when I moved them over.

Spoke to mailman. Mail comes sometime after 3. My street is last on his route. He looked over the mailbox declared it to be ok shook my hand and off he went.

Sitting here now waiting on to hydrocodone to kick in as every muscle plus knees hurt like a bitch right now.

And I've only just begun the heavy lifting!

Stay tuned.

congrats.....

you could of tricked a few members into a wash-in moving event.....yeah, 20 guys to move one set of machines into the laundry room...it would be an AWO first....

Don';t laugh yogi

the thought crossed my mind! Only thing is, I have no extra room for any more machines, even if I had some!

Now if Frig can show up with some PODS and edumacate me on how to use them..................:)

FYI the Frig DW recommends Finish tablets. Great. I just bought a whole bag of Cascade for the GE!

Grrr.................

Congrats! My sister and her partner just closed on the home they were renting yesterday.

If it's the type of Aprilaire filter that folds up when you pull it out they run about 40 bucks on Amazon and they're changed annually as opposed to 1 or 3 month intervals with the 1" filters.

Awesome! I sense that warm fuzzy feeling from getting something all new and big and all yours. I like my frig DW btw, has some neat features for being on the cheap side. Give it a chance but remember they're prob the most fun to upgrade ;)

Offer your freind "movers" a pack of beer after the move.BEWARE of the Goodman HVAC equipment. It is low cost builders units-you may have to budget aside some funds to replace them when they die in 5 yrs or so.People that I know in my area have had to replace theirs after 5 yrs.

Congratulations on making it through the seemingly interminable closing process, Ben! Take care; moving is certainly not a knee-friendly process. Glad my move occurred before knee issues entered the picture.

Go ahead and use the Cascade pacs in your Frigidaire dishwasher. My sister uses them in the---also very noisy---BOL Frigidaire that came with their condo.

Soon you'll be relaxing in your new home listening to the Speed Queen purring away. It will be worth all the work.

My best advice: As others have mentioned, start saving for upkeep! It's the thing that trips up most new homeowners---and I'm speaking from experience. You need to bank thousands of dollars to deal with both short-term and long-term repairs/replacements.

Laundry Detergent Pods: Actually, I'd stick with powders/liquids with your Speed Queen. Pods are great for HE machines, and I love them; but you'd probably have to use two for large loads and that gets unnecessarily expensive. Give Tide Turbo powder or liquid a try. You won't ever need to add an extra rinse.

Way ahead of ya Frig and Tovilac

I have an appointment next week at a local bank to discuss a line of credit for such "contingencies".

Goodman appears to be a mixed bag from what I have seen. Some say greatest thing since sliced bread, others are very negative.

Going forward, I have 3 big outlays coming up, depending on fiances
1. Get driveway paved
2. Get concrete sidewalk poured
3. By a rider mower

Naturally none of this will transpire soon as per the sales agreement, the builder is going to grade and seed the lot once weather cooperates. Only then can I spec out the additional stuff.

Then there's trees and shrubs to plant........the list goes on.

First thing is a garage door opener. I have a 10% discount and Lowes and found a USA assembled Genie screw drive that appears to be able to carry the freight with a lifetime warranty on the motor and screw drive assembly.

We had a Genie screw drive in our last house. They are very nice. They are very quiet compared to chain driven door openers. We had ours for about 7 years before we moved. Didn't need any repairs or adjustments the entire time.

CONGRATS on the new house!

Interesting the BOL Frigidaire DW is so noisy! I wonder how much they've changed in the last 14 years. When I bought my house (14 years ago) there was a new, BOL of all BOL Frigidaire DW installed. While it was LOUSY at cleaning anything in the upper rack, it was damn-near whisper quite!

A request for the future: Can you please try be less vague with your thread titles? just sayin.

Rather than depend on friends and relatives

I found when I moved seven years ago, the best money spent was for a professional mover.
It may have cost me $500, but didn't have to have a hernia repaired afterwards, family didn't come in expecting to be fed every 10 minutes, and I got to keep my friends.

just finished

Getting all the appliances set up in my name. Goodman has a 20 year warranty on the heat exchanger, 5 years on everything else. Frig appliances are ONE year only. Not sure on the Whirlpool stove, probably a year also.

It was warm enough, sort of, to fire up the A/C. Outdoor unit is ok. fan motor is made in China. Has a copeland scroll compressor. Sits on a composite base. I made sure it was level, drain holes are clear so far. It took a bit to cool down but once cool, it put out really nice cool air. Unit runs quiet enough. I can tell already that the weak link is the junk Chinese made sleeve bearing motor. Dad is on his 4th or 5th in Florida on a 12 year old Ruud unit. Hopefully I won't go through THAT many but yeeeesh, can't we even make a fractional HP motor here anymore? And how about some good old fashioned ball bearings for goodness sake? Or did those go the way of the 8-track also?

Picked up my ONE free recycle bin so I won't feel guilty when I run the SQ. Additional bins are a lovely 8 bucks.
