Club cookware

Interesting, I'd suspected it was for their range's cookware line.  I have seen the Club aluminum Dutch oven.  

 

We went to visit relatives in MN when I was about nine years old and one of my aunts had just built a brand new home with a Corning range in the kitchen.  After only a few months in the new house she had run out of negative adjectives to describe how she felt about that range.  A couple of years later when we visited again, the Corning range was gone and replaced with a TOL GM Frigidaire coil-top.

Back in the late '60s when Dave was first married, Club Aluminum was on their bridal registry and they had a lot of pieces.  A few were still kicking around his kitchen when I met him in 1985, but he rarely used them.  That included a Dutch oven.  Everything had the light yellow "Super" forum finish.  He eventually gave those few remaining pieces to a friend who had a stall at a local flea market.

 

Other than the non-existent large kettle, Club isn't something I'm interested in accumulating.

Kettle Call!

This past Tuesday on an outing that included a stop at Goodwill, I found a super clean, barely used 2-quart Oxo Uplift tea kettle in brushed stainless.  I gave one of these to my sister as a gift a number of years ago so I was already familiar with the design.

 

I like its heft, well thought out and user-friendly tip-to-open spout, and ease of filling.  The handle doesn't heat up much at all because the kettle is large enough to cover a fairly high flame.  I'm very happy with it and I think this was meant to be since it only cost $7 as opposed to around $50 new.  Apparently this design has quickly become a modern classic.  It definitely suits the Icon.

 

Here's a picture of the exact type I have, with single hole whistle and stainless lid, instead of the newer style with three small harmonic holes at the bottom of the spout cap, and plastic lid.
