Coffee Pots and Coffee brands...Whats yours?

Yes, we use filtered water for our coffee and tea too. We have a very high mineral content in our water. The water isn't bad, but when we get it thru the filter, it really smooths out the taste.
BTW, we love Twinings Green Tea. Much stronger than regular green tea. Very smooth! It's a nice evening tea!

Coffee: Yuban Columbian (or other Columbian if no Yuban)

Makers:

Cuisinart DC1200 -- use this every day, quick and acceptable.

Revereware Stainless Drip -- use this on weekends, takes 20 minutes to boil the water and let it drip down. Like the coffee it makes, though.

Pyrex Percolator -- use this 3-4 times a year to remind myself why I don't use it more. Somewhere in the last 30 years I lost the knack.

Farberware 4-cup electric percolator -- makes coffee I don't like very quickly.

Bodum French Press -- makes coffee I really hate.

And, just arrived today from eBay, Silex 8-cup vacuum pot. Will have to wait until some weekend to try it out.

Here's a (possibly) interesting fact.

Most of us think of the 'perking' action of a coffeepot when we see the word 'percolator.'

A lot of people are surprised to find out that 'percolate' means, "To cause a liquid to pass slowly through a porous substance or small holes; filter."

In other words, a drip coffeemaker percolates every bit as much as a 'percolator.' I don't think that I'll ever be able to stop thinking of the 'perking' when I see 'percolator,' but there you have it.

I like the Eight O'Clock, unfortunately no Bokar here
and Chock Full O' Nuts original.

I have an on-off relationship with Gevalia...if they have an automatic drip machine that I like the looks of, I'll reopen my account and order some Cafe Sperl and Kenyan blend.

I got hooked on German coffee when I was there and my favorite imports are Eduscho, Tchibo, Jacobs, and Dallmayr.

I use a drip machine because my GE percolator (which is as old as I am) is currently missing in action....

Wouldn't you know it- as soon as I tell everyone about my everyday coffee and coffeemaker, I break the drip maker's glass carafe!

It happened tonight as I was cooking. So, tomorrow will be an atypical combination- Chock Full O'Nuts and the Farberware stovetop perc.

Terry thanks for reminding me of 8 o clock. You know how I love it when you and Roger make it, then I come home and forget to buy it!

I generally use Peet's (I think it's a California thing). General something or other blend. I use a clear glass Corning percolator with red base and handle. Whatever I use it's always percolator or vacuum.

selectomatic.......I LOVE MY BUNN~~~~~ My first one lasted 10 years and then it started leaking. i had to get a new one when that happened. since then I've had the same BUNN. This one is about 7 years old or so. They are WONDERFUL!!! 2 minutes for an entire pot!!! Its almost time for a new one though. When I go to make the next pot....its not really hot any more. (one right after the other) The coffee tastes GREAT!!!! Its quick ( i need that in the am).

My BF Jeff uses Gevalia .....he likes it, it does smell very good. I just prefer my coffee to be straight up!!

I have one and it's hidden away in one of the cabinets.

Me and Helen's daily driver is a Bodum French Press, but on occasion I'll grab the Sunbeam Coffeemaster and make coffee in that.

I use a Braun Tassimo with Maxwell House French Roast "T-disk" during the week when I drink one cup in the morning. I also like the Twinings Green Tea Disk.

On the weekend, I use a Braun Flavor Select with a Braun Burr Grinder to make 8 o'clock French Roast beans.

At work, we have one of the Flavia cup at a time machines. My Tassimo does a better job.

I alternate between percolator drip coffee and instant *waits for the boos and hisses*.

I have a Sunbeam percolator, bought around 2005ish, its good but not the best. I use Harris Parisianne style coffee.

Instant i either have Morrocan or Nescafe Gold, or International Roast if i'm desperate.

Me too! In the UK we have a brand called tick tock thats the best rooibos tea. Caffeine free almost and tastes to die for. Im with you on this one after i successfully kicked my coffee addiction. I got a bit dependant on it as a relaxant so now i save coffee for spec ocs. Not very good for my teeth or sleep pattern. Rob

Turkish

Does anybody get into Turkish coffee? I've been wanting to buy myself that set-up for a while but since I'm the only coffee drinker in my household I've been putting it off. I know it's a stove-top method that you have to keep an eye on but that's about it.

We've been using a commercial version by Mr. Coffee. It has a hot water resevoir, round glass restaurant style coffee pots, and a warming plate on top. It's pretty fun. My old company was going to throw it out, if you can believe that.

I forgot to mention that I also use Cafe' Du Monde's Chicory blend with my Chock Full O' Nuts. I mix it 50-50.

I saw two Cory vaccuum(?) coffeemakers in an antique store t

They were both in nice condition, complete with original scoops and instructions. Very cool-looking.

But I still love the speed and convenience of the Bunns. Who needs a timer?

Badata, Bunn used to supply new gaskets free of charge to any owner. You could pull the machine apart, scrape out the lime deposits, and replace the old gaskets. Unfortunately too many stupid people tried to do this either without unplugging the machine, or without waiting for the 195-degree water to cool down, and Bunn had some legal problems. As a result, you can't even buy the gaskets any more.

If you ever get to Madison, my Bunns are ready.

Daily Driver?

Sunbeam Coffemaster C50, with either Bokar Blend or French Roast coffee by Eight O'Clock. All coffee purchased in bean form and ground in Bodum grider. As the weather gets warmer however, and drinking less coffee tend touse my stainless steel stove top coffee/expresso maker. Kind found in French and Italian kitchens. Makes good fast coffee/expresso and just enough for one or two cups.

A word about using filtered water for brewing coffee:

Brewing good coffee as well as tea requires fresh water with lots of oxygen. Filtered and or bottled water that has been left standing is "flat" and does not do the best job. Best is fresh tap water, if one must use filtered water it is best to use freshly filtered water as possible. Even that science type chef on the Food Network discussed this, Alton Brown.

By the way, you can tell if coffee is brewing with lots of oxygen water by the light brown foamy "head" that comes when with certian brewing methods, such as vaccum pots.

That's my absolute favorite too but it's become no longer available in my area.

Yep, just bought the ibrik and the coffee last month, but haven't whipped up any yet, because of the heat...

My friend is going to teach me how to make frappes with the Greek Nescafe coffee (mmmmmm!)

One of the great things about living in this area is that all of these products are readily available and cheap, so if you try something out and don't like it, it's no great loss!
