Hey guys I have been ordering Comfort Softener from www.britsuperstore.com I really loved the pink one Lilly and Rice flower that has been discontinued I have tried blue (hated), sunshine (was ok), tropical (I liked), tempting nature (also liked but now gone) and Naturals olive blossom (hated). So I need your help, as I wanted to order some more bits from. Is there anything that smells remotely close to Lilly and Rice Flower? What are the new Exhilirations like, the Melon and Strawberry have me interested how would you describe them? I hope they are not sickly fruity. Also the Lenor Breath of Fresh Air what are your thoughts. Thanks will appreciate any input.

Comfort

Not in this house!

The Pure version is the only one I really go for if I want Comfort. The Exhilarations Fruit flavour ones are a bit sickly I find but its personal taste as with anything.
I agree with what you say about the Blue one, its really gone to the dogs!

Lenor Breath of Fresh air is my 2nd favourite FS at the minute. Its got a real retro scent to it similar to the Original scent it had years ago
1st favourite of mine would be Barefoot in the Grass which is the same as the 90s Alpine Lenor that they discontinued a few years ago.
Tend to switch between the 2 although Ive been on yellow lenor recently but they have done something to that which makes it smell unpleasantly weird.

Are there any supermarket own brands available? Asda do a pink one which may be like the Lily Comfort. The suprmarket brands dont seem to soften as well or leave much of a scent behind though.

Comfort

Not for me either!

I find it very gunky compared to lenor, when I use lenor the dispenser is always clean when the cycle is over, with comfort there is a layer of gunk in it. I also find lenor softens better and has a less overpowering scent. My grandad has the exhilarations, I do find them quite fruity and sickly.

Personally I like the blue lenor best (Spring Awakening), which I think is quite similar to breath of fresh air. I find the yellow (Summer Breeze) a bit sickly and I haven't found any of the diamond, sapphire and ruby etc range to be to my liking.

Probably best to just get some that look appealing and give them a go, everyone has different scent preferences afterall.

Good luck.

Matt

The new Exhilarations ones are horrible. Strawberry fabric conditioner? No thanks! The melon one has a weird (almost sour) scent to it as well, I think. The new Twilight Sensations aren't much better either. They smell like really cheap perfume.

I find with Comfort that after the wash is finished there is always a load of foamy crud around the door which has to be wiped away before taking the clothes out.

Lenor is a much better product IMO. Clothes feel softer, the scents are generally nicer and longer lasting and it doesn't leave any gunk behind!

Hi Frontloader 812

In response to your original question, when Lily and RiceFlower disappeared, the Purple one (Passion Flower and Ylang Ylang, I think) altered scent and now smells very similar to Lily and Riceflower. I note from your post that you haven't tried the purple one - I think this one would please you, if it is still around. It seems they change so often... If you don't like the olive one, you probably won't care for Comfort Pure (white bottle) as it has recently altered scent slightly in this direction. As an aside, Comfort Pure, last time I checked, was the No1 selling FS in the UK.

I have to agree with all previous posters though, I feel that Lenor is the better product overall - scent issues aside. Comfort is gloopier than Lenor and leaves residue in the drawer. It does foam up more, this is because it uses a different type or combination of surfactants than the others. Yes, it can leave foam round the door glass which if not wiped dries to a horrible film.

The most significant problem I have with all variants of Comfort, however, is that is leaves white foamy splodges on certain black materials which can actually dry in and can require a rewash!

On the plus side, Comfort is the better FS to use on towels (if you wish to use one) as it doesn't affect the absorbency nearly as much as other brands.

Yellow Lenor

glad it isn't just me that has wondered what is up with this all of a sudden. The fragrance has changed and I am not liking it so much anymore. WHY OH WHY do they have to f**k around with things like this?

I can't bear all these 'meat and two veg' varieties that are around now. I want traditional blue Comfort back, as is used to smell in the 1970's. Does anyone make fragrances like this and if so please tell me!!!

No such luck Paul. I think its going to be the way now with all these "Freshness Burst" "4X" Technology crap things.

Seems the only option is to buy the Dilute versions which now cost nearly 3x what they did do.

I have bought a tub of Comfort DeoFresh to see what thats like. Seems nice in the tub but then its always different on the washing.

Fingers crossed.

Deo Soft

Had a big bottle of this over the autumn, really liked it, a nice mild fresh smell, more like real flowers than a lot of the scents around that claim to be floral. Didn't seem to have the problems with gunking up the dispenser or the foam or lack of softness that the regular variants seem to have.

I don't know where they get the "deodorising" claim from, does nothing that normal softner dosen't in that respect, but I didn't expect it to when I bought it.

I'm tempted to try the breath of fresh air one now, if it smells like the original scent, spring awakening seems to have changed slightly.

Comfort

Eighteen months ago, we took advantage of Tesco's two-for-price-of-one Comfort blue offer.

It was mingin'. The smell made us want to wretch; so much so that after a few uses, the remainder of the first bottle went down the sink. The other bottle was passed onto a friend.

I use Lenor Ruby & Jasmine. It seems to tame the strong odour of Ariel powder.

Of the Comfort range, I liked the coffee-coloured 'Creme' range - which you can no longer get!!!

Thanks for all your input guys, I think I might give the purple comfort a go and try some Lenor. While I have all you attention do the Ariel tabs smell anything like the the gel as I bought it and really don't like the liquid smell. I remember using Ariel Bio powder and it had a nice fresh green smell kinda citrus/melon. Do the tabs clean well?

Ariel Bio/Colour Tablets

Indeed have the same scent as the bio powder and I've noticed no difference in how well they perform compared to the powders.

The liquitabs also have a very nice scent, the same as Ariel ultra liquid from the 90s until a few years ago. Being liquid though they won't clean your whites or heavily soiled clothes as well as the bio powder/tablets cos of the lack of bleach, but I love them on coloureds. :)

Hope you like them, I've got some Australian Omo and Cold Power that I really like, I aslo have the Cuddly Sunshine fresh which is nice, but has a very strong scent and tends to leave a lot of gunk in the dispenser. I love how concentrated they are too!

Comfort

I love comfort, try the jojoba and white orchid one, thats really nice =]

love the sunshine, tropical and pure ones, cant use lenor as it makes me itch and they smell too overpowering.

As for Tablets, I use Daz Tablets at the moment, much prefer them over ariel tablets which have a disgusting smell, Daz tablets have this really clean subtle fresh scent, my housemate commented on how nice the clothes smelt after i washed them in the tabs.

I recommend ordering some Daz Tablets as they are good at cleaning and they smell lovely.

I have been ordering from Britsuperstore for a few years, and have 5 bottles of Lilly and rice flower left. I also like the "naturals" line specifically:
olive blossom with cotton extract - my favorite, followed by aloe vera extract and jojobal oil with white orchid.

The non concentrated Comfort blue was pleasing but the concentrated formula is too sweet--I can't stand it. Another favorite was almond creme. Later I discovered sweet almond creme, blue sparkle and jojoba Essence....same fragrances, in Snuggle brand FS. Both Comfort and Snuggle were from Unilever.

Now Unilever has pulled out of the detergent market in North America and the Snuggle brand has been sold to the Sun company. So far I can still find blue sparkle which I don't want, and Jojoba oil under the Snuggle label. In my conditions Snuggle seems to make the clothes softer than Downy which leaves a greasy feel and some of the Snuggle fragrances are kinder to my nose.

Daz tablets...

I quite like Daz. I'd buy it if it weren't for the fact that everytime I pick up a box, it reminds me of those god awful adverts lol. I like most of the P&G range to be honest, but Ariel takes the biscuit I'm afraid. I used to get the big boxes of 95 wash P&G professional ariel from Makro for £8.99, but I haven't been in FOREVER. The actilift stuff really is super as well. My Mum (who, at some point, as tried every detergent under the sun!) has now switched from her usual brand and is noticing improved performance with it. Plus, I love the fact that the tabs are pretty much the same as the old Ariel Ultra <3

IMO, the difference between using Comfort and using Lenor is a bit like the difference between being massaged by a fully trained, experience masseuse, and being massaged by a brick layer. I have to agree with Matt who mentioned Lenor Spring Awakening. It's really fantastic. I have some V-neck jumpers I wear for work, and it really works wonders on them - even just using half a cap. It's such a smooth softener than comfort and isn't too overpowering or gloopy. Deffo worth a try :)

ttfn,
Chris

This Week I Will Mostly Be Eating lol

erm I mean Using.

Finished off the god awful yellow Lenor on some handwashing, what with England playing twice this past week needed to freshen up a red t shirt for work to go with the white shorts so instead of running a wash or 3 been on the Ariel Handwash liquid and said Lenor.

Now onto this, Smells good but whether its pleasant enough on the wash is yet to be experienced. Heard some good things about it.

Wonder if there is a similar proffessional formulation in Oz?

Loving the new machine Rob :-D

I'm surprised no one has commented on it yet!!

I have been waiting in anticipation for your 'grand reveal' from a previous post stating that your arch enemy had died lol!

On the softener subject, the only comfort softeners I will use now are the exhilirations Melon scent (much nicer on the laundry) or comfort pure. Otherwise its Lenor/Store Brands all the way for me!

Dan,

I have been debating the subject all week on what to do and decided il wait until I get some videos too.

Just a cheeky snap shot for those who've been emailing and msn'ing gasping to know lol.
