I just received a response from the Regional Sales Manager of the South Pacific region of Alliance Laundry.
His response was that the current 240V models we get here in Australia with the gearbox will continue for the 'foreseeable future'.
I can only deduce that Speed Queen will have two different production lines for domestic machines: one that retains the gearbox for export markets (such as Australia) and one for the new 2018 models for the US market.
What 'foreseeable future' means I can't say and they didn't elaborate.
I know this doesn't help any of you who still want the more traditional style machine, but I thought it was interesting to find out.
Cheers
Leon
