Hi all!

I have come across a Whirlpool dreamspace AWM1000 washing machine. Pretty much a duet but it says it's made in Germany so I presume it's more bauknecht. The machine is 5 years old and the owners are selling because it sometimes stops during a cycle. Sometimes it finishes the cycle and times not. They say it stays powered on and gives an error code mid cycle. And then they struggle to get it unlocked. Say they need to switch it on and off and wiggle the door handle a few times before it will unlock. They had different service techs in and some say it's PC board and some said door gasket (really?) so they have up after a Whirlpool tech took the board for reprogramming and the machine didn't even finish one cycle after that. So they bought a new machine and now the whirlpool is for sale.

So I'm thinking of purchasing it and fixing it up. What are your thoughts on the matter? Are these machines generally problematic? Would this be a quicker fix than a new PC board? Or should I just give it a miss?

Thanks in advance

Matt

Logixx...

I know, that would have given quite a bit of clarity. The machine has been standing for a few months already so they couldn't remember what error code it gave.

Logixx, you have a similar machine if I remember correctly - what's your opinion? Would this be worth the gamble?

Could possibly need a new door lock assembly... In that case wouldn't be too bad of a repair. Would need to find out what error code it was giving to be sure.

Its a no-go...

Decided to pass on the machine. Made a few phone calls this morning and popped into one of the local repair shops, and worst case I'm looking at a new PC which is just under ZAR5000 (roughly US$500, give or take) or a new door lock assembly which is ZAR1500 (US$100) so I decided that I am not prepared to spend that much (if not more) on the machine. Maybe one day I will find a working giant front load to play with for a bit...
