Considering buying a Dishmaster faucet

I moved into a house about 7 years ago and the cheap-y faucet in my kitchen is getting shaky (loss of small parts, leaking spray hose head etc.)

I am considering buying the old classic "Dishmaster" because I still do a lot of dishes by hand and missed having it from my boyhood home.

Does anybody have a comment / recommendation? They're still in production, how are the new ones? Any comments on an older model? Difficulty in getting parts etc.

We bought an Imperial Four back in 1987 or so.  Dave's two teenage daughters were more inclined to wash dishes once we installed it.  We left it behind over the laundry sink at our previous house because the spout had frozen and wouldn't swivel from side to side anymore.  It was convenient, and came with adapters for deck mount if needed, so it's not like you have to buy them based on your mounting system.

 

They've become ridiculously expensive.  You might want to consider cruising the on line marketplace for a NOS/NIB DM that could possibly cost you less than a brand new one from the store.

I have a new one that looks like an old one.

<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva;">I have one that still has a vintage look but is a new one.  However, I didn't pay the $215 that they want on their website.  I bought mine on eBay NIB for about $100.  I've had it installed for a couple of years now and have had no issues.  I really like using it for things that I would otherwise have to get out something like a bottle brush.  I also like the fact that the company sells all the bits and pieces to keep it going including the chrome cover if I scratched it and wanted a new one.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva;">This one can be mounted either way.  I bought this one because it used three holes in the sink leaving one hole I used for a Dishwasher faucet.  They have a four hole model and then some that look more modern.  The modern looking ones have the soap tank under the sink and I didn't think I'd want to have to get under the sink every time to add soap although those tanks are bigger.</span>

I bought one and had it installed in June this year. While I really like the brush and the soap dispensing, I'm not very happy on quality, as it is already leaking where the neck of the faucet connects and it often still drips when shut off.
Sadly I can't say I would buy another

Sam, the dripping should be an easy fix.  If you haven't tried already, you can make valve adjustments with the hot and cold knobs/levers.  I always had ours adjusted as loosely as was possible without having any drips.  While in the "off" position, remove the knob/lever and bump it "back" one spline.  After that, you should feel more resistance as the lever nears the "off" position, and the dripping should stop. 

 

I can't advise on the leak at the neck.  It might be a washer or O-ring in the diverter mechanism.  Wouldn't your leak be covered, or is the warranty period less than six months?  As stated above, ours did the opposite, eventually fusing itself into a stationary position -- presumably due to lack of use at the laundry sink as compared to regular movement while installed in the kitchen before we remodeled.   We had the exact same one pictured in the sink shot posted above.

So, the hose does not stow or slide away, under the counter?

 

I like the brushed spray nozzle thing.  Would one really have to give up the convenience of a single handle faucet and disappearing hose?

We had a door to door salesman claim if my mom bought the " Lightning Quick" garbage disposer.she d get a "Free dishwasher"with it. She bought it and ,before it was delivered and installed,she had my dad remove the cabinet next to the sink to fit in the dishwasher. He did and,when the man came to instal the disposal, he asked why there was a missing cabinet. Mom told him it was for their free dishwasher. When he explained the Dishmaster was a dishwasher,mom called the BBB and the salesman had to not only buy us a new cabinet but also give mom her money back. When they returned,they never took it back.. I found another one here a few years ago and used it till I left Honokaa. I used Dawn.

Never heard of disposers and dishwashers sold DTD-have any pictures or info on the disposer?Or was this from long ago?

I don't know about Dishwashers

But garbage disposals were indeed sold DTD.  Very prevalent in the new and growing suburbs. 

 

The salesman came to the house with a demo kit much like selling a vacuum, or encyclopedias.   He also became part of the family until someone said yes and signed the contract.

Don't think folks buy encyclopedias anymore.Can you provide links to these DTD disposer companies?Are they still being sold that way today?The "dishwasher" referred to earlier was a "Dishmaster" dish scrub brush with detergent dispensor.Never heard of the DTD disposers until now.The neat things you learn on this site!Just would like to know more about those.I am into DTD vacuums-esp Kirby.These are still sold DTD today.
